HieloLuz 4 Texas has the best wins in the country with Ohio State, Tennessee, and UTSA all being quality wins. But the rough loss to Oklahoma knocks them out of the top spot.

Tarmacked 4 So I struggled here. This comes down to three things

1. Ohio State is probably the most experienced of the three and more consistent.
2. Texas has the best win, and a 2-1 in Sagarin resume. Shaky performances
3. Alabama has the best resume with 3-1 in Sagarin but the youngest core

I’d like to do Ohio State, Alabama, Texas in that order but I have to reflect the head to head and it is the best win. Annoying but honestly depending on Tennessee I may flip this back.

ChBass 5 The longhorns offensive woes finally caught up to them in Dallas, and the Oklahoma loss more than erased the Ohio State win. In a world where wins & losses don't matter, this is a #1 team because of the best defense in college football, but wins and losses do matter, so we're at #5.

TheUltimate721 6 And there goes the other shoe for Texas. What a disasterous fourth quarter by Arch. The only way that doesn't at least go to overtime for Texas is if Arch did exactly what he did and turns the ball over. People have been pointing out strength of resume for Texas but I feel like that's a bit misleading because their best two wins were pretty shakey. Like I did not come out of the OSU game going "Oh yeah Texas is clearly the better team." they really just outlasted OSU. I feel much more confident in Ohio State down the stretch with what has been shown which is why I have them above Texas despite the h2h.

Zef_Apollo 7 I want to drop them further, honestly. I think they have an A defense and a C offense. Arch is overrated and a liability. None of the weapons on this team are being used effectively despite Cam Coleman finally having a breakout game. Texas is truly on a razors edge right now. They will continue to benefit from OSU the rest of the season but it's very possible that Oklahoma as a loss looks worse over time and they can't get credit for the Tennessee win if they keep losing. Florida is in a tail spin and this may be a scary team to face when Texas is struggling to find any identity.

Comment: Tough rivalry game loss stings, but I don't think it's indicative of anything all that concerning for the Longhorns. At a certain point you have to just accept a result as being an upset, otherwise you'd have to follow the chain of results to the point where you're entertaining the idea that Purdue is a better team than Texas, which is absurd.

Lefunnymaymays4lief 9 (-8) RRR is one of those games you just can’t predict exactly what will happen, but OU looked utterly lifeless before this game. Making John Mateer look not just clutch but way more clutch than your hyped up QB with football royalty in his blood is just a horrible look. An utter collapse in all facets of the game. They certainly have the potential to turn it around and start playing consistent football, I just need to actually see it; they’re not gonna get away with being carried by one quarter of football

Rivalry loss. But still a loss. Oklahoma is not good. Don't let this be like the Florida loss last year.
tier 2a: Bama, Texas, & tOSU are all 1-loss teams with great losses or Texas owns H2H v tOSU. So Texas > tOSU, and UGA > OU, so Bama > Texas > tOSU

Maladroit44 11 Cassandra, of Greek mythology, was cursed with the gift of foretelling the future but never being believed. Certain teams make me feel that way, and Texas is one of them. All three seasons the Longhorns have been in the SEC, they've been ranked #1 in September. The 2024 team wasn't bad, but lost three times to the two best teams they played; the 2025 team didn't even make the playoff; and now the 2026 team looks like a bit of a paper tiger too. I can't blame people for seeing the championship potential here, but one of these years, Texas needs to earn their spot at the top before we start calling them the best team in football. Most of this team wasn't born the last time they were *actually* that good.

d1sportsball 5 I absolutely hate to do this. Texas is NOT the #5 team in the country, but I can't punish OSU for playing 1 bad quarter of football while Texas played 1 perfect quarter of football. Its gonna take a lot of wins for Texas to rise any higher, and if OSU loses this week then Texas may end up dropping into the teens even if they perform well vs Florida.

Isthmus11 8 4-1, finally lost the close game against OK instead of pulling out the miracle win. This defense is elite, Arch needs to play better (and I do not know if he can) for this team to be a legit natty contender. This Oklahoma team is not good and I do not think Tennessee was either, more and more I think the OSU win was more about them collapsing than Texas playing well on offense

in seriousness they stay over Texas tech due to Ohio state and Tennessee wins
ninjatown23 9 Texas loses a stinker of a game to OU on a neutral field. This team just showed us what the floor is. Special teams mishaps and poor offensive decision-making (coach/QB) cost them the win. In spite of this, they lost on a last second FG. Texas is a top-10 team with potential to be a championship contender… IF they can figure things out on the offensive side of the ball.

_THE__BOULDER_ 10 Arch Manning is feast or famine. And that's not even just from game to game. It seems that, sometimes, this occurs from drive to drive. The Interception followed immediately by a touchdown drive was a good example of that. But then a couple drives later threw another pick. Granted, he did put them into position to kick a long field goal, but it missed from 53 yards out. After forcing a 3 and out, he gave Oklahoma the ball with good field position, allowing the Sooners to win it with a walk off field goal. The defense is great. They did exactly what they needed to do. The offense and special teams are where they lost the game, as Oklahoma had also scored off a blocked punt which they returned for a TD.
DarthGlazer 10 once they play "like-talent" they can't compete. They got lucky vs OSU and it showed today.
