2026 Week 7 Northwestern Wildcats Rankings

Main Poll Voters

User Rank Reason
Maladroit44 9 The Big Ten, to my dismay and consternation, still has not amended their scheduling approach to enshrine Northwestern vs. Nebraska as an annual rivalry, and the two don't play this year. It's a real shame, because at least right now, it's looking like it would've been a real doozy of an NU-NU showdown—potentially the first with both teams ranked since the 2000 Alamo Bowl. Alas, it's not to be.

Tarmacked 15 FPI and Sagarin have sunk a bit on them, partly because of the matchup this week. I think everyone else keeps making bigger arguments and Indiana has looked more shaky still, so their resume takes a hit.
twitter_paulbd 15 One-Loss P2 Loss was to #8 Indiana and schedule has been harder compared to Nebraska.

ChBass 16 Stomping Ball State didn't teach us anything about Northwestern that we didn't already know, and the Penn State win is still worth something. They'll have a few weeks before things get real.

HieloLuz 17 Northwestern joins the rankings in part because week 6 is when I begin to consider FCS rankings, and South Dakota State being ranked #1 counts as a quality win. But it's all they have right now. Close loss to Indiana, but is hard to compare to others still.

ball state more like balls in ya face. suck that wildcat dick bitch. i'd like one ticket on the bandwagon pls.
tier 3b: 1-loss teams with a loss to a top team, but haven't beat anyone good yet. Iowa beat Michigan, most legit win besides oregon, lost to ohio st most legit loss. wake beat louisville, but lost to miami, etc etc
indiana + michigan state > indiana + penn state > tulsa + oregon

Lefunnymaymays4lief 21 (NR) Don’t look now, but the rest of this schedule outside of a trip to Columbus in November looks winnable. Hell I’d argue if that game was played in the new Ryan Field it could potentially have been maybe sort of winnable. I just think a playoff game at that venue in year 1 of it being open would be so sick even if they would inevitably move it to Soldier Field to sell more tickets

sgtshenanigans 21 Northwestern beat Penn State but that's not the accolade people thought it was at the time. As of now the best result for Northwester is a close loss against Indiana which might also not be that great of an accolade I guess we will see. I'm ranking Northwestern here but I don't feel great about it.

Isthmus11 18 4-1, dismembered a not very good Ball State team this week which does not really add much as a data point but I still think this team is better than a lot of people give them credit for. An offense of smarter than average P4 players with Chip Kelly as OC makes for a very fun gameplan to watch play out. I think this team is going to have a pretty clear identity on being good enough to simply outsmart a lot of opponents offensively

_THE__BOULDER_ 23 I've been saying it for a bit this year - they put up a great fight against Indiana, for example - but I think Northwestern might just be kinda good. They are now 4-1 with a game against Sparty, they have scored at least 30 points in every game BUT the Indiana game. Granted, Ball St this past weekend was nothing to write home about, but I don't see why Northwestern can't challenge for somewhere between 3-5 in the B1G this year. They may fall short, but they can challenge for it with how they've been playing.

mathwrath55 25 Should've been ranked for a while now in my opinion, if your only loss is by 1 score at the defending national champion you can't be that bad. Would probably be higher if Penn State hadn't lost. I similarly feel like Nebraska should be ranked (Nebraska is predictive #14) but other than IU they really haven't played anyone, so they fall at #26.
