Georgia Bulldogs
|
(+1) Kirby Smart’s squad has once again returned to #1, and this time around I think they very well could hold onto that spot for a good long while. Shaky at moments for Stockton, but he showed resilience and a strong mentality. Ever since his 2nd half heroics in the 2024 SEC title game and being the lone bright spot in the subsequent Sugar Bowl loss, I knew Stockton was one of them ones even if his tape doesn’t fly off the screen. And for once in his tenure as the starting QB, neither his support cast at the skill positions nor his defense let him down in his endeavor despite the lack of having a… for lack of a better term, established “dude” at the former positions. Still, at a talent and athlete level they are as deep as you could possibly want in this era of CFB |
| 2 |
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
|
(+1) Similarly to Georgia, Notre Dame looks pretty damn complete with a vet QB; the difference being UGA passed the first of their major tests this past week while ND has played pretty light up to this point (even though all of Wisconsin, Purdue and UNC are probably better than anticipated) (and also I like Carr quite a bit more than Stockton). Provo will absolutely be live with it being a 5:30MT kick and GameDay coming to town, ND will just have to continue to shut out the noise and continue suffocating their opponents… and also stop pussyfooting and start Jonaz Walton already |
| 3 |
Miami Hurricanes
|
(+1) The Miami Infirmary Wards will have to wait a bit longer for their showcase game, because apparently the only other viable one on their schedule came and went against Wake Forest to little fanfare and some “huh, what a weird game” comments. This conference outside of those two and like, maybe UVA still(?) is quite bad. If Miami fails to win their first ACC title game for the first time since joining the conference in 2004(lol) it would be serious coaching malpractice |
| 4 |
Ohio State Buckeyes
|
(+2) Through 23 quarters of play, OSU has looked absurdly dominant particularly because of the greatest skill player of an entire generation. The problem is that applies to 23/24 quarters, with that 4th quarter in DKR being the one reason they aren’t #1 right now. And unlike those top 2, despite having probably the highest level of talent cumulatively in all of CFB, the Bucks seem quite unbalanced; WR depth outside of Smith concerns me, and their front 7 (particularly their LBs) almost seem like they don’t wanna be there at times whether they’re creaming opponents or not |
| 5 |
Indiana Hoosiers
|
(-) Is it fair to have OSU above the undefeated and defending champion Hoosiers? I don’t know, but this isn’t about fairness at this stage of the season. They can certainly just win against the Buckeyes in Bloomington this week and just put the argument to bed. Simply put, without an exceptionally clean pocket Hoover just isn’t what Mendoza was, even though with one he can launch some beautiful missiles. Defensively they also seem much less cohesive than last years’ squad. The Marsh/Becker duo and their stable of RBs can challenge any other position group in the country however, and can certainly keep them within reach of the top dogs |
| 6 |
BYU Cougars
|
(+2) No LJ Martin against ND and potentially for the Holy War really, really sucks. That didn’t stop them from grinding out Iowa State this past Friday though. This team is as old school as it gets; even without Martin, outside of maybe UCLA they are THE best running team in all of CFB. Defense is certainly up there with ND and Georgia. Bachmeier is noticeably improved from 2025 as a passer but that doesn’t make their offense any less one dimensional. |
| 7 |
Alabama Crimson Tide
|
(-1) Bama gets a taste of what happened to Auburn in like, literally every SEC game they played last year. Hurts doesn’t it? Russell dazzled at times, other times reminded you he’s a freshman. Rest of the team at times looked like a well oiled machine, other times looked like they couldn’t point out Tuscaloosa on a map. Dijon Lee should lay off the mustard for a while. This game actually made me think higher of Bama as a team overall, but you don’t move teams up after a loss. Simple as that |
| 8 |
Utah Utes
|
(+2) If (when, sorry) ND beats BYU this Saturday please don’t drop them too far I NEED a top 10 Holy War to happen in my lifetime. Imagine the Texas/OSU game where 3 quarters are great but one is a disaster, but the quarter is random and it hasn’t actually resulted in an L yet; that’s been Utah football this year so far. A complete performance against KU probably would have made me put them above Bama. However I am quite the Dampier enjoyer |
| 9 |
Texas Longhorns
|
(-8) RRR is one of those games you just can’t predict exactly what will happen, but OU looked utterly lifeless before this game. Making John Mateer look not just clutch but way more clutch than your hyped up QB with football royalty in his blood is just a horrible look. An utter collapse in all facets of the game. They certainly have the potential to turn it around and start playing consistent football, I just need to actually see it; they’re not gonna get away with being carried by one quarter of football |
| 10 |
UCLA Bruins
|
(+3) UCLA, the team from California known first for basketball and second for sending QBs off to the next level, is currently running the shit out of the football. And I think that’s beautiful. Bob Chesney joins Cignetti in the vaunted 2-man fraternity of turning a B1G basketball school into a football machine. Future Maryland Terrapin Billy Napier? More likely than you think! |
| 11 |
Texas Tech Red Raiders
|
(-2) Worst spot and week to have a bye so far. Even still TTU has just been playing some pretty uninspired football before that. Outside of that awesome game with Houston, it’s been joyless… uhh, manslaughterball? Recklessendangermentball? QB still is a question mark, and while the talent on the rest of the team isn’t, there’s something there that just feels… off about them |
| 12 |
Ole Miss Rebels
|
(-1) They ground Vandy into a fine paste, so this is not punishment for that more than it is rewarding UCLA for being the surprise they are. That L against Florida isn’t exactly an aberration but it is looking more likely like an obvious letdown spot having a pretty tough go at the start of the season between the neutral site Louisville game and the emotional Magnolia Bowl. The defense that let them down in that UF game looked very solid Saturday though despite the fact Vandy can’t run to save their lives anymore |
| 13 |
Oklahoma State Cowboys
|
(+2) Speaking of aberrations… yeah we’re entering “How the fuck did they lose to Tulsa?” territory. More questions that must be asked include “How the fuck did Mestemaker never start at QB in high school?” and “How does that high school coach still have a job?” because he is looking well on his way to either save a decrepit NFL franchise or cost a GM his job. Offensively they are SO fun to watch |
| 14 |
Mississippi State Bulldogs
|
(+5) And here’s the biggest winner for having a bye week with LSU, Oregon, Duke, Nebraska and Pitt all taking Ls. It really pains me to report that MSU looks this good because god Lebby is such a piece of shit. KaMario Taylor being as good as he is and the way he plays the game makes it much easier to stomach though |
| 15 |
Missouri Tigers
|
(+5) Everyone calling the A&M upset and for SEC cannibalism to continue seems to have forgotten Marcel Reed is not good. Offensively they’re playing complimentary football. The Lacy-Simmons swap looks like the most mutually beneficial “””transaction””” the SEC has ever seen, and no Hardy no problem for the run game. If he’s able to come back, this is absolutely a playoff threat |
| 16 |
Kentucky Wildcats
|
(NR) Stunt on these hoes, Kenny Minchey. Stunt on these hoes. |
| 17 |
Houston Cougars
|
(+5) Never noticed how much the Kentucky and Houston logos looked similar until I ranked them right next to each other. Neat! Weigman continues to make A&M look really fuckin stupid, which is also quite neat |
| 18 |
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
|
(+7) With the ACC title game more and more looking like a Miami-Wake rematch, you are now reminded Wake Forest has won an ACC title in 2006, two years after Miami joined the conference. I liked the Dave Clawson era teams but Jake Dickert is making him look like a clown the way he is currently owning the Tobacco Road quadrangle with an iron fist |
| 19 |
Iowa Hawkeyes
|
(NR) Last week I dropped several teams in the teens after losing pretty embarrassingly; Iowa was one of them and Florida was not. Allow me to correct that mistake. Washington looked spotty yet competitive in losses to Minnesota and USC and yet were absolutely suffocated by the Hawkeyes. B1G title game hopes are still alive in Iowa City |
| 20 |
Wisconsin Badgers
|
(+4) It just feels right for Wisconsin to be in the rankings again. Wisconsin playing in the Rose Bowl again on top of that, even if for a regular season game? Nature truly is healing. If only the AP and the Coaches would join me in doing so, because UCLA-Wisconsin should absolutely be a ranked matchup |
| 21 |
Northwestern Wildcats
|
(NR) Don’t look now, but the rest of this schedule outside of a trip to Columbus in November looks winnable. Hell I’d argue if that game was played in the new Ryan Field it could potentially have been maybe sort of winnable. I just think a playoff game at that venue in year 1 of it being open would be so sick even if they would inevitably move it to Soldier Field to sell more tickets |
| 22 |
Boise State Broncos
|
(HM) With NDSU taking an L this week, the race for the mid major CFP spot is firmly between the Broncos and New Mexico at the moment with the H2H against Memphis doing some serious heavy lifting. Boise probably cares more about reclaiming the Milk Can for the first time in 4 years right now though, and the way they closed that game out was just good old fashioned clockwork |
| 23 |
Arizona Wildcats
|
(HM) Quietly, the Cats are 5-1. Also quietly between them, IU, UCLA, Texas Tech, Kentucky and Houston holy SHIT this poll has a lot of basketball schools. I am in my late twenties and I am not entirely sure if Fifita is younger than me |
| 24 |
Tennessee Volunteers
|
(-3) Fayettenam Schmayettenam, woof. Just not the way you want to win against a lifeless Arkansas team with the game in doubt in most of the contest. Between this uninspired performance and a very pissed off Bama TSIO is beginning to look like a potential splattering. Of course this means it’ll be the third Neyland Tennessee-Bama game in a row to go down to the wire |
| 25 |
Nebraska Cornhuskers
|
(-8) It appears heartbreak is the only way Nebraska can end football games anymore. Truly a choke job of the ages here. For me personally I don’t have enough to completely drop them from the rankings but mostly they have a bunch of teams in the teens taking L #2 on the year to thank for that. And hey would you look at that, that’s 4 B1G West teams ranked! God’s favorite division continues to shine even after they killed it and left it for dead in a ditch <3 | DROPPED: (13) LSU, (14) Duke, (16) Oregon, (18) Pitt, (24) Florida | HONORABLE MENTIONS: USC, Duke, LSU, Oregon, Memphis |
