peachios 7 Not dropping them much at all to barely losing to LSU, and almost got a chance to try and tie. Offense looked great, so that defense will need to step up.

TheFlyingBoat 8 Texas falls a single spot after a tough loss to a great LSU team. Their offense had a few miscues early with an easy, wide open catch bouncing off of running back Keaontay Ingram's hands, but as the game went on the Texas offense got better and better, flashing explosiveness and the ability to create big plays against an elite defense in ways not seen since at Texas since 2009. Defensive miscues were more prevalent as an elite QB protected by an elite OL with elite WRs managed to pick on Texas' young defense after an admirable performance by the D during the first 25 minutes of the game. The performance convinced me Texas is indeed a top 10 team.

Blazeth 9 Texas proved that they're not out of the mix in terms of playoff contention against LSU this week. Of course coming out on top would've been much better, but their offense seemed legit at least.

GenialGiant 9 Texas may have fallen to 1-1, but they're easily the best one-loss team in college football.

hypercube42342 9 They picked up a close loss against a top 5 team. Other teams falling played as much of a role in the small size of the ranking drop as their own performance did. -1

PHubbs 10 You lose, you've sadly got to fall. Texas looked great in their defeat, though, having the same problems on defense as LSU. This would have all the makings of a magical season for Texas... if Hurts didn't go to OU.

crimsonlaw 11 The Longhorns gave LSU a game. They lost, so they probably should fall, but not much.  A four spot drop seems fair to me.

JustAManAndHisLaptop 13 Played an excellent game and while not a win should be happy with how the team played. Is this truly a game between titans of CFB or is this like the ND game years back is still to be seen but Texas is definitely back from the depths of the Charlie Strong era.

Charlemagne42 14 They would drop further, but for one thing, it was a one-score loss to the #2 team; and for another, too many teams around them did much much worse. Also, quit playing zone against seam routes. Man up so your young LBs don't have to do four things at once. (-1)

iliketoupvotepuns 15 While Texas' defense looked really bad against LSU, Texas will only face a few teams that can punish Texas in the same way. With 8 new starters this year, I think the defense will get better as they go along. That said, the offense played better than I expected, especially considering their lack of running back depth, and Ehlinger kept the Longhorns in the game by seemingly sheer force of will.

steelcitygator 15 UP 2They lost so good they moved up 2 spots!!!!  Honestly the reason they moved up was Boise's poor performance and looking really good out there against my new #3 in the country.  I think they are a top 10 level team this year.

seaotter2 16
stripes361 16 16th may seem harsh for a talented team which did well last year and lost by only one touchdown to my #4 team but it's actually quite a bump up from where the computers have them. Both FPI and SP+ have the Longhorns ranked 24th on the back of a defensive efficiency outside the Top 80. Of course, that efficiency is largely influenced by playing LSU, which may turn out to be an outlier. On the other hand, Tom Herman's Houston teams sometimes struggled in this area, a weakness which was overshadowed by his explosive offenses. I'm not convinced Sam Ehlinger will be able to paint over the blemishes in the Big 12.
