TheFlyingBoat Ballot for 2019 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 10, 2019, 2:27 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
1 Alabama Crimson Tide It's Bama. Nothing really more needs to be said. Oh wait. They have a kicker now. Lord have mercy.
2 Clemson Tigers Trevor Lawrence has looked uncharacteristically poor the past two games. I'd assume it's just some rust/chemistry issues that will resolve itself eventually, but it could be some sophomore slump type stuff, too. Until he gets back to form, I'm moving Clemson to 2 and Bama to 1
3 LSU Tigers For the first time since I don't know when, LSU's claims about having a new offense that would actually use the talent they have well has actually been borne out by reality. Burrow completed 80% of his passes with a great aDOT. Marshall, Chase, and Jefferson proved to be elite college WRs not just elite athletes (which they also are) that would get drafted on potential and talent instead of production. The running backs were no Fournette and the running attack was largely stuffed until the complete meltdown of the pass D of Texas, but none of that phased the LSU offense. Their defense is also elite despite what the box score says. Both Fournette
4 Oklahoma Sooners Their defense didn't let them do much of anything until the starters were pulled and the score was 49-0. That's new for OU even against shitty teams like South Dakota. Not reading too much into it, but I think OU might have a passable defense based on the performance against an elite offense and a shitty one and barely passable is all they need to be a title contender.
5 Ohio State Buckeyes Fields looked great again and the D smothered out a decent Cincinnati side.
6 Georgia Bulldogs Georgia is not the second best team in the SEC this year. That being said they're still very good. They showed it against Vandy though I am curious to see how they match up against ND. I wouldn't be surprised if ND wins.
7 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Their was some clown fiesta nonsense going on against Louisville and they did struggle against a running QB, but that shouldn't be an issue when they Georgia in two weeks and ND looked solid against the pass. Their offense seems potent enough, but isn't one of the elite offenses in the country.
8 Texas Longhorns Texas falls a single spot after a tough loss to a great LSU team. Their offense had a few miscues early with an easy, wide open catch bouncing off of running back Keaontay Ingram's hands, but as the game went on the Texas offense got better and better, flashing explosiveness and the ability to create big plays against an elite defense in ways not seen since at Texas since 2009. Defensive miscues were more prevalent as an elite QB protected by an elite OL with elite WRs managed to pick on Texas' young defense after an admirable performance by the D during the first 25 minutes of the game. The performance convinced me Texas is indeed a top 10 team.
