crimsonlaw Ballot for 2019 Week 3

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 9, 2019, 9:11 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I ranks 'em as I sees 'em. And I reranks 'em as I sees 'em.

Rank Team Reason
Clemson Tigers The defending champs looked pretty nice defeating Texas A&M. So long as they remain undefeated, they deserve the top spot in my mind.
LSU Tigers They beat Texas and thus have the best win on their resume out of all the teams. I say they deserve the 2nd spot for their performance.
Oklahoma Sooners There is a logjam starting here. I don't see much difference between teams 3-7. I'll put Oklahoma here based on how powerful their offense looks.
Alabama Crimson Tide They dominated Duke. They dominated New Mexico State. They finally play an SEC foe this week. Maybe we can learn something about this team then.
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State shutout a good little Cincinnati team. But we have to wait a few weeks before the Buckeyes play anyone who could truly threaten them.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia is in the same boat as Alabama to me right now. They've looked pretty good against not so great competition. Their upcoming game against Notre Dame will help us define this team.
Wisconsin Badgers Back-to-back shutouts gets my attention. They may bowl over Michigan this week the way both teams are playing right now.
Auburn Tigers Auburn is Auburn. They were not impressive at all against Tulane and should drop a few spots. But I know better. It's all part of the act. This is a team that may well be the SEC champs when the smoke clears, and ol' Gus will get another ridiculous contract extension.
Utah Utes I'm keeping Utah at 9 because I don't have a team I think deserves the spot more. If I had to pick a Pac-12 Champ right now, it would have to be Utah, so that's my justification right now. Always subject to change, of course.
UCF Knights There are no other teams I want in the top 10 this week, so I'm going to give UCF some props. They just keep winning.  If they beat Stanford this week, I will feel justified in ranking them here. If not, I'll feel like a fool. Such is life.
Texas Longhorns The Longhorns gave LSU a game. They lost, so they probably should fall, but not much.  A four spot drop seems fair to me.
Penn State Nittany Lions Watcha doin', Penn State? Just going to keep scoring lots of points over some mediocre teams? I feel ya. Good thing you've got some real games coming up so we can see what you are made of!
Florida Gators Eeeeeehhhh... I don't know where the Gators deserve to be ranked. I don't have a lot of faith in this team. I think they lack leadership on the field and the offense is helmed by a child. So the unlucky 13 spot it is!
Washington State Cougars They haven't played anyone (says the broken record), but they've looked good in those games.  Why not keep bumping them up the poll? The pirate-coach deserves the benefit of the doubt.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish I'm not moving them during a bye week so early in the season.  They stay in their seats for now.
Michigan State Spartans Well, so long as they keep winning, I'll keep ranking them.  A 2-0 start if great for this team which has struggled over the last few years. And they could manage to keep this train a rollin' until their bout with Ohio State in early October.
Maryland Terrapins So this Maryland team might be pretty could. It looks like they put on some steel-toed boots and are ready to kick the teeth in of anyone who gets in their way. I've got not problem taking them from unranked to 17th after what they have shown us.
Texas A&M Aggies I can't penalize this team for a loss we all knew was coming. I think A&M is a good team with a terrible schedule. They didn't embarrass themselves against Clemson, so I won't punish them here.
Iowa Hawkeyes Iowa wins, they stay in my poll. Others lose, they move up my poll. Simple as that.
Oregon Ducks I still am disappointed in Oregon, but they had a nice game against Nevada this weekend. I'm sure they pound Montana this week too. But I'm still haunted with some of the terrible calls and flubs they committed against Auburn.
Michigan Wolverines Okay Michigan, here's the deal. You haven't looked good at all this year. You beat Army because of a miracle, not because you outplayed them. I'll keep you ranked, but not in a position you like. Turn the ship around and start playing like we all anticipated you would, and you can climb back up the ladder.
Boise State Broncos Yay for beating FSU! Boo for the Marshall performance. Still, a win is a win, so we will keep you on this party bus for now.
North Carolina Tar Heels Huh. UNC is looking pretty decent. Two wins over teams most folks have heard of? I'm interested to see what happens the rest of the season.
Virginia Cavaliers This may be a bit premature, but what the heck. I'll give Virginia some love here. At this point in the poll, why not?
BYU Cougars You beat Tennessee in Knoxville. God bless you crazy Mormons! This more of a "screw you" to the Vols than anything.
