Beating Ohio State and then going into Knoxville and surviving Tennessee is massive, though. The defense is the real star here. Colin Simmons just casually tying a Texas sack record with five sacks against Tennessee is awesome. Arch Manning has been below average and 20 points against Tennessee is a little concerning, but when you're winning road games against ranked SEC teams, a win is a win. |

Their defense has all the potential and performance of being #1, but the offense needs to start being consistent before they start losing. I’m not sure what it is with Manning, but he’s very up and down, though many fail to point out the offensive line isn’t doing him any favors. They are back to #1 due to resume after the Ole Miss Massacre, but they can lose it just as easily as they lost it the last time if they continue to perform the way they have. |

Hopefully, they can use that bye to gain some synergy, because defense alone can only carry you so far (but man, what a defense). |

Their offense has not been entirely clicking and needs to become more cohesive. RB play wasn't great, with Texas only having 61 yards rushing, and it looked like Smothers was sorely missed. While Arch did have 200 yards passing this game, he threw for no touchdowns and an interception. An interception and 7 punts is not going to be enough to win it all. That being said, Texas is a contender for the best defense in the nation. Will Muschamp has those boys playing some lights out defensive football. TEN SACKS. This defense will allow the offense to find itself and, if last year is any indication, Texas likely will find itself. After wins over OSU at home and Tennessee in Knoxville, Texas does combine for the two best wins in the nation, leaving them in first place, but they need to become more consistent on offense if they want to stay there. |
