2026 Week 8 Texas Tech Red Raiders Rankings

Main Poll Voters

User Rank Rationale
HieloLuz 1 Texas Tech and BYU are the clear top 2 right now, and they are very close, but Texas Tech's win @Houston is better than BYU over Notre Dame. Texas Tech also has a quality win over Oregon State.

Doogitywoogity 3 Tech finally put together a performance I expect out of them. Cincinnati will be your hardest game since Houston followed up by a tough AZ. Better get to running smoothly on all cylinders.

Justanother_0 3 Undefeated with a strong defense. I still stand by the belief that this team folds when they face someone that can both stuff their average offense and can keep pace with their defense, but until that day comes the Red Raiders will sit pretty in the upper strata of my ballot thanks to just about everybody in front of them taking an L.

sgtshenanigans 4 Texas tech went bta on Arizona state. Their close win against Houston is looking better because Houston beat Oklahoma St. All that being said I still Texas Tech has some pretty big holes and are getting a little lucky that they won't face BYU or Utah in the regular season. Still they are undefeated so earn a top 5 ranking for now.

Tornadohunter24 4 [6-0, 3-0 Big 12] (+5) | SOR: #8 | Notable Results: W 35-24 @ HM Oregon State [5-2], W 28-26 vs #15 Houston [6-1] |

Coming into the season off the heels of a tumultous saga with ex-Cincinnati QB Soresby, I wasn't sure what to make of Texas Tech, especially with some of the talent they lost to the NFL on defense. However, that Red Raiders defense is just as good as promised, and QB Will Hammond is slowly but steadily developing chemistry with the rest of the offense. The wins over Oregon State and Houston continue to look better and better as time passes, and all signs point to them being serious contenders for the Big 12 Title once again. If they avoid the egg they laid in the playoffs last year, college football may in fact run through Lubbock (no love lost here for Cody Campbell, however).
vanburen1845 4
WarEagle9 4
Xy13 4 Tech should keep it rolling, with a relatively clear schedule. Also avoid BYU and Utah in the regular season.

The devils may have the raiders to thank. Dilly finally benched Boley, and our new QB started to light it up.

Probably not, but the team who played against Colorado a couple weeks ago doesn’t shellack ASU the way this one did. Very positive sign, let’s see if they can ride that momentum

ChBass 6 Texas Tech is still undefeated, beating Arizona State despite the Sun Devils throwing for 380. That's the thing with Tech: anyone can throw on them, which drags down their defensive rankings to the mid-50s. But keep winning, and you're in.

Lex_Ludorum 13 I get it… I’m much lower than most. Close home win against Houston is only resume point. Otherwise, they’re in the meh category.
Maladroit44 13 I still don't like putting confidence in this team, but I must begrudgingly admit that the tenor of their season has changed dramatically over the last few weeks. A couple blowout wins, plus Oregon State and Houston looking better and better as close-ish victories early in the year, has the Red Raiders a bit more comfortable in the role of playoff contender. I still hesitate to rank them *really* high without more meaningful wins on the resume, but those opportunities are coming up: at Cincy this week, vs Arizona the next, and a titanic trip to Stillwater two weeks after that.

_THE__BOULDER_ 3 Since the Houston game, TTech has been not been breezing through their schedule as much as I would have liked to see from them. They have some potential tests coming up in the next month in Arizona & @Oklahoma St. I won't be surprised if they are undefeated going into the Big 12 CG, but I also don't think this team is nearly as good as it was last year, so I won't be surprised if they drop one or both of the two games I mentioned above. This game was more of a step in the right direction though. They did fumble on the goal line at the beginning of the game, showing some of the offensive issues that I think have been prevalent in this team, but then they pick-6ed only a few plays later, and continued to move from there. They are undefeated, and have a good win in Houston (I have them at 14th, currently), which I think should put them high in the rankings. But I also won't be surprised if they move down by the end of the season.

Texas Tech beat Arizona State 53-25 and still fell three spots. That’s because teams around it gained: Tennessee, BYU and LSU all jumped past it. Its 29 rule wins without a rule loss include Houston (28-26), Oregon State, and, through chains, Oklahoma State and Oregon. Its strength in simulated games is about the same as BYU’s. BYU has more and better rule wins, so it finishes ahead.

quantum_jedi 15 (58.38, +3) Great showing by the Red Raiders as they smashed Arizona State. I think this is a better team than #15, but with a 101st ranked SOS and their only win of merit over Houston (and maybe Oregon State?) there is a lot to prove for Texas Tech. While they avoid BYU in the regular season, the Red Raiders will have a number of opportunities to climb in these rankings.
