2026 Week 8 Tennessee Volunteers Rankings

Main Poll Voters

User Rank Rationale
galacticdude7 3 Predicted Record: 11-1

Losses: Texas (17-20)

Comment: Similar story to Ohio State where the Texas loss is not looking as excusable anymore, but lighting up the cigars helps make up for it. Also I have no idea who the best team in the SEC is right now, so I'm tepidly going with Tennessee for now.
Tarmacked 4 Straightforward, this years OU. Likely will drop a game due to offense.

I have criticized the lackluster Tennessee offense (and Josh Heupel) at times for their inability to move the ball to capitalize off of the hard work that their defense and special teams to give them favorable positions. I cannot say the same this week after the complete beatdown they put on the Crimson Tide in Neyland. While those flaws are still prevalent to some degree, such a comprehensive win over a top-tier opponent does much to soothe all grievances and gripes with how the Volunteers have played earlier this season. It's a bit unfortunate that the loss at home to the Longhorns is aging so poorly, otherwise they might be higher.

Maladroit44 9 As a Tennessee fan, I've been saying all season that we don't have a quarterback, and as a result we won't be able to beat any really good teams. Fortunately, the feature of "really good teams" was removed from the sport after last season! The Vols' offense absolutely did its best to throw this game away, with missed opportunity after missed opportunity, but...as I am also an Oklahoma State fan, I know very well that you can play like shit on offense and still win if you have the legend himself Jim Knowles guiding the defense. Bama's drive chart this game went fumble-punt-INT-punt-punt-TD-punt-fumble-FG-downs-punt-punt-INT. I've never seen anything so beautiful in my life.

StFuzzySlippers 10 We knew their D was good, but I don't think anyone expected it to be that good. Was Alabama hungover? Was the environment too much for them? Those things possibly affected them, and I still want to see UT look good on the road and not struggle against the Arkansas of the world.

Nevertheless, MacIntyre might be developing into the reliable, game managing qb they need to guide Bishop and their Defense to a playoff run.

Justanother_0 11 From Unranked to #11? How?

The combination of the entirety of the SEC taking losses ahead of them and the surprising dominance of the win changed my mind on the Vols. While I wouldn't call their offense great, it works well enough to grind out points against solid defenses. Also, their defense is utterly insane and the sole reason they don't lose by 20 every game.

nw____ 11 Big win after a shaky performance against Arkansas. I don’t understand this team. Sort of feels like I’m stuck between what I think Tennessee under Heupel has been (high flying offense, aggressive but leaky defense) and what they actually are this season (more game control, defense that is both aggressive and really good)

sgtshenanigans 11 Some people will never give defenses their due but I will. Tennessee's defense is elite and that is why they are a bubble playoff team. Their offense has weapons but is missing a signal caller that can bring it all together. Really solid win against Bama gives Tennessee a signature win they were missing.

HOW???George MacIntyre’s breakout game was THIS??? HOW??? Nothing about these Vols make any sense at all man

_THE__BOULDER_ 10 This offense still needs work, but this defense is quite good, and they showed it against Alabama. Russell has been one of the better QBs in this league and he looked terrible out there, with the Vols collecting turnovers early on and ending any chance Alabama had with one final interception. MacIntyre seems to be the better out of Tennessee's options, but I wouldn't say he played especially well. That rushing offense went well, however, as they rode DeSean Bishop into the ground - 32 carries, 159 yards, and 2 TDs. He only averaged 5 YPC, which is good, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't like he was breaking off big plays all the time. Instead, they were methodical and, ultimately, were able to run it down Alabama's throats.

Beating Alabama 26-10 completed Tennessee’s chain over Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Kentucky. Its only loss is 20-17 to Texas. It’s weaker in simulated games (50% against the top 25), which keeps it at the start of the big tier.

They managed to out physical a bama team that was down bad after a bad loss to uga but otherwise idk. They don't have anybody else to play though really. Kentucky is mid, LSU sucks. Tennessee might be 11-1, and then will deservedly go to the playoffs
