Ohio State is one of the best defensive teams in the country. McCord is better than he's getting credit for and it's not entirely fair to criticize Ohio State for how they played a good Maryland team, but they are 61st nationally in yards per carry. They can't run the ball on good teams, and quite frankly McCord doesn't seem like the QB you want to rely on to win games for you

Ohio State was lucky that Maryland made a few errors in the Red Zone in the 1st half or they probably would've found themselves down a couple TDs at half. The Buckeyes bounced back in the 2nd half and and ended up pulling away in the 4th quarter, but there are real question marks about if this team can actually put 4 quarters together vs a good team, and they need to figure it out quickly with Penn State coming to town on the 21st.

So far the hardest undefeated schedule in my opinion. That close win at Notre Dame really pulls them up for me. That's not an easy place to win, and Notre Dame is not a push over team.

Ohio State beat a Maryland team I had ranked in my top 25, while Ohio State didn’t take control of the game until the fourth quarter, they did win by multiple possessions, and I don’t want to simultaneously punish Ohio State for not beating Maryland by enough while believing Maryland should be ranked. I just hope Michigan, Penn State, and Ohio State don’t form some sort of circle of suck that takes them out of the playoffs

Maryland hung around with the buckeyes for 3 quarters before a 17 point 4th quarter made this game look a lot more lopsided than it actually was. Still a 20 point victory against a conference foe combined a Texas loss is enough to push the Buckeyes up to #3

Still giving the Bucks credit for being the first team to knockoff ND (in a game that was the Irish's super bowl, and in South Bend) but, like last season, that win is starting to age poorly. Make of the MD result what you will. Do you say "oh, MD is actually quite good and that was impressive of OSU to overcome them." or "What is OSU doing getting handled by MD for a half?"? I don't know, they're not firing on all the OSU cylinders, but they're kind of gritty and I kind of dig it (speaking with my OSU fan hat now).

I'm a late-life buckeye fan convert, so I don't have quite the expectations or frustrations that a lot of the lifers seem to have with this squad....some of y'all have been watching 10-win football seasons for your entire life and it really shows. The defense (namely, the secondary) is solid (dare I say elite) and we'll find out all we need to against PSU and Michigan...though overlook the trip to West Lafayette at your own peril *maniacal laughter*

The ND win took a serious hit, but their win over Maryland looks pretty good (though they were struggling for about 35 minutes). It's just enough to stay in the top 5, but the Buckeyes will need some better wins (or a perfect record) to rise up much further than this. Penn State comes to Columbus in a couple weeks.
