2017 Preseason Ohio State Buckeyes Rankings

BabyBladder 1 For anyone reading this, I typically do my pre-season polls as forecasts for end of season results (for fun). Last season's pre-season can be seen here: https://poll.redditcfb.com/ballot/28838/. Correctly predicted 3/4 playoff teams, but laughably over-valued MSU/ND. Nailed Pac-12 missing out (though undervalued USC).Now for my top 10 predictions:Ohio State goes 14-1 on the season. They're 11-0 going into the Michigan game, but already have the Big 10 East locked up. Michigan balls out as a statement game, Ohio State obviously gives its all but the Big 10 CCG is in the back of their mind the entire time.

eclectic_tastes 1 Mostly here based on Ohio State having the best coaching staff in the country at the moment. 2nd in 5-year recruiting rankings. Returning senior QB. Expecting a significant jump in offensive production, otherwise Ohio State will fall a bit.

stripes361 1 The bowl game against Clemson was ample cause for concern. Without Kevin Wilson's arrival in Columbus, they may not have ranked #1 in my pre-season poll. However, I expect the offense to improve over their 25th-ranked finish in FPI last year. They are stacked with talent on both sides of the ball. And they have elite performers at the two most vital positions in college football: head coach and quarterback.

AllHawkeyesGoToHell 2 So, in every preseason poll I've seen, they've been jumbled and randomized versions of every team from 2-8. They all feel very close together, even though some seem obviously higher than others. This batch of teams is where we are going to get out playoff 4.
Arsenal7X 2 *Maybe* the most talented team overall in the country with their recruiting success over the last 5 years and the amount of returning starters from what was already an elite team last year, performance in the playoff notwithstanding. Some questions on offense but they have new coordinators in Ryan Day and Kevin Wilson so things should work out just fine there. Absolutely monstrous and deep defensive line is one of the best in the country along with Clemson's.

Cobainism 2 Urban Meyer is simply a freakin good football coach who just continues to replace 5-star recruits with...more 5-star recruits! The defensive line will be quite a force to be reckoned with, as it's stacked up with future NFLers. And oh yeah, J.T. Barrett. *gulps*

mickeyquicknumbers 2 2016 Ohio State survived one of the greatest exodus' of talent in recent college football history to go 11-1 in the regular season and make the playoffs with 16 new starters. The defense, which was one of the nations best last year, will be one of the nation's best this year. The offense - which was amazing for a while and then sputtered dramatically by season's end - should be better with an updated coaching staff.

WhiteBaseCoat 2 Again, no major surprises here; this team isn't quite as experienced as FSU, but otherwise you can more or less plug in Urban Meyer to the description I gave them.

Our-Gardian-Angel 3 Under Urban Meyer, the Buckeyes have reached the point where they can plug key departures with four- and five-star recruits. Don't be surprised if Ohio State finds itself in the College Football Playoff once again. Heck, they might even score a point or two this time around.

RegulatorRWF 4 Bring back lots of talent, hard to imagine more than two losses, the early season will either cement a top 4 ranking, or send them tumbling. Kevin Wilsons worth will be tested early.

IAMAVelociraptorAMA 5 I'm not sure Ohio State's defense rebounds as much as Michigan's does.  As usual, Ohio State seems to produce defensive talent out of everyone, but I still hesitate - Urban Meyer is a great coach but I am genuinely disappointed in how they fared against Clemson, and the loss of talent I think will hurt them more than usual this year.  That having been said, it's always good to bet on the Buckeyes.
Lex_Ludorum 5
noahthearc 5 Others are higher on the Buckeyes and I agree they are talented, but the end to last season leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I'm not convinced, yet.
