IAMAVelociraptorAMA 4 Probably my worst ranking here, but one that I hope holds true."Almost" doesn't count for wins, but it does count for growth.  They were literally a handful plays away from unbeaten and much of their talent loss was 3rd-round or later.  They may have lost a decent bit of that #1 ranked defense, but phenomenal coaching and some offensive growth will put Michigan over the top of Ohio State, assuming their on-paper pedigree pans out.  I could very well be wrong.
BabyBladder 5 I think most top 25 preseason projections are under-estimating the Wolverines. Yes, they lost a lot of talent, but at this point with the level of recruiting and coaching from Harbaugh, that doesn't mean all that much. Much like other tops with great coaches and recruiting they're capable of reloading in 1 off-season.Despite being one of the top teams, Michigan runs into some trouble. They drop games @PSU, and @Wisconsin. They beat their 2 rivals (booo), and win a great Orange Bowl game vs Clemson.Michigan fans leave the season still unsatisfied, but at the same time content with their season. Beating MSU and OSU keeps hopes of future success up, but not being able to win the division again keeps frustrations alive.

Grimbo_Reaper 7 I'm pretty sure that if you go look in my old accounts comments, you'll find a large variety of snarky comments about Michigan basically losing everyone from last season. Which is pretty much true. However, a lot of players got play time and the team is stupidly talented. Also, their head coach is bat shit crazy and sometimes that works in your favor.

jmac_21 10 Michigan plays hard for Harbaugh. It's as simple as that. They've had some big time recruits come in, and it's time for them to step up. They came up just a bit short on a few occasions last year, but I see them winning the close ones this year.

relax_on_the_mat 10 I love Michigan but I #10 is the absolute limit. Too many mistakes in high stakes situations, which is rather unlike a Harbaugh-coached team. He's still relatively early into his tenure (hopefully), so the crucial mistakes may be on the decline.

Arsenal7X 11 Usually teams experience a Great Leap Forward during a coach's third year but Chairman Harbaugh had all of Brady Hoke's high profile recruits to play with and now that he's lost them, the wolverines might experience a Marginal Step Backward. They still have Mo Hurst and Rashan Gary so don't have too much sympathy for them.
aubieismyhomie 11
beerslingerjay 11 They don't have much coming back, but they also didn't have much when Harbaugh took over. After the recruiting he's done the last few years, I expect a small dropoff.

Cobainism 12 We all know about Harbaugh's player development, and we'll see that foster over the course of the season as he leads one of the youngest college football squads in the treacherous B1G East waters. However, growing pains are naturally part of the process for these youngsters, and it may end up costing the Wolverines a game or two. Then again, even Brady Hoke, who isn't even on the same planet as Urban coaching-wise, had his teams play OSU close. So we'll see what transpires at high noon on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

WhiteBaseCoat 12 Same deal as Clemson; they're more talented but also way more inexperienced. Jim Harbaugh's an awesome coach with an established record of success, but he's facing a very uphill battle this year.

AllHawkeyesGoToHell 13 I understand they have insane talent, but they lose so much production and experience. Freshman and sophomores will make rookie mistakes, no matter how talented. They'll drop some balls they shouldn't, make a few bad reads, lose to a bottom-dweller, but pull off a stunning "upset."

Ghost_of_Dude 13 Michigan has a lot of talent to replace this year. While I have no doubt they'll do just fine doing so under Harbaugh, I want to see it first before I shoe them into the top 10.

Rainbow_Beefcake 13 Mr. Khaki's returns 5 starters, and only 1 on his vaunted defense. The recruiting has been impressive, but that's a lot for even a team like alabama to replace. Time will tell us everything we need to know about the maize and blue. Unfortunately for them they start right out of the gates with gators. In week 10, I'd give them the edge, but that's not what it is.

stripes361 14 The Wolverines have a brutal schedule, starting the season with an OOC matchup against Florida, traveling to defending B1G champ Penn State, and ending the season with consecutive games against Wisconsin and Ohio State. Their defense will rough up everyone in-between, but can Wilton Speight be a big-game player this year? Perhaps the Richmond native can channel fellow Collegiate School alum Russell Wilson.

mickeyquicknumbers 17 Holy attrition batman. I think Jim Harbaugh is a clear T5 coach in college football, and I think the obvious trio of Hurst/Winovich/Gary retooling a defensive line that was absolutely absurd last year can be 85% as good as they were up front last year. Those two facts are the only two things keeping Michigan ranked in my mind. The offensive line, the receivers, and the secondary are completely gutted. Michigan is going to have some ugly, ugly growing pains this year, and a 9-3 season would be a big win for them.
