Arsenal7X 4 Teams with Husky mascots are objectively better than those without. They lost John Ross but QB Jake Browning and RB Myles Gaskin return on offense while my spirit animal Vita Vea returns on defense. Chris Peterson has created one hell of a program on relatively short notice and the dawgs should keep rolling this year. They play Rutgers out of conference, so big ups to UDub for strategic scheduling.

mickeyquicknumbers 4 Washington seems to be getting overlooked a lot for preseason hype this year. I'm not sure why. Jake Browning was not far behind Sam Darnold last year as a true sophomore, Miles Gaskin looked every bit as good as Ronald Jones, and the Huskies return two very good receivers in Pettis/McClatcher and have fewer questions across their offensive line. Pair that with likely the best defensive line in the Pac12 (sorry Utah) and one of the best linebackers in the nation in Azeem Victor, and you've got yourself a bona fide contender. The secondary is a question after some pesky attrition to the NFL & the graduation of Kevin King, but overall this team looks ready to run it back for another go at the playoffs.

beerslingerjay 5 I doubted the hype for them last year and believed Tennessee's. Not going to be burned again. Anxious to see who Browning targets now that John Ross is gone.

stripes361 5 Chris Petersen may be the third best coach in college football behind Urban Meyer and Nick Saban. The Huskies, Petersen's trademark defense, and a poised, physical offense dominated the Pac-12 last year. USC and The Darnold make headlines but all Washington does is make plays. Huskies will repeat as PAC champs playing in time slots that give a whole new meaning to the term "sleeper team".

eclectic_tastes 6 Peterson's recruits are finally taking over the team. He returns most of his offense from last season, including his QB.Only #27 in 5-year recruiting average, but great coaching and returning production mean that this team that made the playoff last year (and played a gritty game against Bama) will be good.

Cobainism 7 Jake Browning is a fantastic college football QB, and expect him to continue shredding Pac-12 secondaries. Even through Chris Peterson's squad lost a few defensive stars to the NFL, standouts like LB Azeem Victor, DT Vita Vea, S Taylor Rapp, and CB Jordan Miller should fill the void and lead the Huskies to another date at the Pac-12 conference championship game.

WhiteBaseCoat 7 Washington's biggest ding to me - and they're probably the first team on this list where I have a serious, major concern - is that they lose a lot on defense, production-wise. I trust Chris Petersen quite a bit, enough to think that they'll still be top 10 and may have an outside shot at another playoff appearance, but I'm wary about their ability to replace their losses considering their recruiting hasn't been spectacular (again, I do trust Petersen to develop talent, but they've got some big shoes to fill).

Our-Gardian-Angel 8 The Huskies finally hit their stride under Chris Petersen in 2016, winning the Pac-12 and earning a spot in the College Football Playoff. A lot of talent from their sensational secondary is gone. But if younger guys like Byron Murphy can step up, Washington just might repeat as conference champs.

Grimbo_Reaper 10 Ya, I'm not crazy enough to drop a team returning that much talent from a playoff run past this spot. Why not first in the division or conference, though? They lose a lot of the secondary and that plays in perfectly to The Pirate. Still, they return a lot of talent and experience on the offensive side of things (OL and QB) and are going to be pretty damn good.

IAMAVelociraptorAMA 15 I'm a mild Washington homer so I'm ranking the Huskies lower than a lot of other people might rank.  Call it a perverse optimism: I still think they're better than most teams, and if I'm wrong then I have them at #15 where they belong and if I have it right they'll hit the playoffs again and I'l be happy anyway.
