2018 Week 2 Washington Huskies Rankings

Main Poll Voters

User Rank Reason
dicky_________seamus 7 Really impressed with them. I thought the game was going to turn into a blowout after the first half of the first quarter. They showed a ton of heart and were right there to win it at the end. Play that game 99 more times, and I would expect the results to be 50/50.

stripes361 7 Many pollsters don't believe in ranking 0-1 teams and most other fans would probably want to drop Washington, at the very least, below all the other "top" teams this week. My philosophy is that they played my #5 team pretty evenly, so just below #5 seems like a perfectly suitable spot for the Huskies.

Miami_da_U 8 Not a terrible loss, especially since it was basically a road game. I think they showed they will still be the best PAC 12 team. Certainly the best 1 loss team. But if I ask myself would they beat ND, LSU, Stanford, VTech, and WVU, which are the next best teams in all the conferences (or independent for ND) the answer is yes.
PHubbs 8 Washington lost to another legitimate top 10 team in week 1 while putting up 398 yards to Auburn's 420 and gaining 24 first downs to Auburn's 27. The game was close so I see no need to penalize Washington too much on the loss. I know people will take issue with me leaving Auburn behind them in the rankings, but I expect Washington to start a winning streak that will go 8 games into their match-up with Stanford, while Auburn has to survive another prove it game in week 3 against LSU. There is a very good chance that Washington doesn't lose again until the playoff and I'm just not comfortable letting a week 1 close loss knock them down just yet. Both teams have plenty of chances to prove they need to go up or down in the coming weeks, so I'm waiting this one out a little longer.

bgr308 9 The Huskies suffered a tough loss Saturday in a defacto Auburn home game, but it is easy to see the positives. Browning, despite two turnovers, looked decent for much of the game. The defense, although they allowed only 21 points, could use improvement, after giving up first downs on half of Auburn's third downs. However, Washington is still the favorite in the Pac-12, and should end the season still in the playoff conversation.
Bill3ffinMurray 9
Blooblod 9 Trey Adams is expected to miss most of the season which is a huge hit. This o-line couldn't handle Auburn's d-line at all. I still have faith that the Huskies can win double digit games this year. For all the off-season concerns about the receiving corps, I thought they looked pretty good--especially Aaron Fuller.

monkeymatt1836 9 The Huskies dropped a close game to Auburn in Atlanta, 21-16. Ultimately too many mistakes in the red zone cost UW the game. Jake Browning wasn't able to control the game like Chris Petersen may have liked. While they are not officially out of the playoff race, they certainly need to win out, including in the PAC12 Championship Game, in order to have a shot at securing a bid to the final 4.
Mythic514 9
nickknx865 9 Dropping teams in the rankings very far for losing a really tough game against a really good opponent 2,000 miles away is bad. This is still a national title contender even with the loss.

standrew5998 9 Washington played a good game Saturday, and it was close. I don't think Jake Browning is as bad as people are saying in hindsight, he made throws that I highly doubt many other teams' QB's can make, including my own. Washington should still be the favorite to win the PAC-12 and they still have a shot at making the CFP if they run the table.

joebob431 14 The only team in my top 25 with a loss. I decided to still rank them because I don't think the game forces me to change any of my priors. Washington played Auburn close. They still have good odds of winning the PAC-12. The defense and Myles Gaskin both showed flashes. Nothing about a 5-point loss to a top 5/10 team (in what was essentially an Auburn home game) should cause us to say Washington is unworthy of ranking. By the way, I was at this game and Washington fans were lovely.

admiraltarkin 15
chrisb19 15 A close loss to Auburn doesn't change the fact that they're the favorites to win the Pac12 North, and it comes early enough that they're still in playoff contention.

woakley 15 Washington takes the second biggest drop in my poll this week. They played a really tough opponent and had a chance to win it, but couldnt pull it out. Them dropping this far is not me thinking that they dont have a ton of talent (they do), or that they cant roll through the rest of their schedule (they probably should), but I just cant put a 1 loss team over some of the teams in front of them right now.

moistats_ 16 See MiamiThe reason why the Huskies dropped harder is because the Pac-12 has much better teams.
xelphin 16 Losing to Auburn had to hurt, but they lost by 5 points in a neutral-site game to a great opponent. This kind of quality loss will drop them quite a few places, but it would be irresponsible to put them too low.
BallSoHerd 17
bwburke94 17 Am I dropping Washington too far? Probably. But it's what the computers tell me to do, and this early in the season, it's hard to tell who's for real.
GenialGiant 17 Auburn is a very good football team, so losing to them isn't the end of the world, but it does drop the Huskies several places.
Lex_Ludorum 17 Maybe a little harsh. It's early. You'll get back there.
