moistats_ 3 Notre Dame was one of my most controversial choices in my preseason poll. However, ESPN projected that Notre Dame has the third best chance of making to the playoffs, and being favored for all regular season games. In conjunction with their future schedule being very likable and loads of talent to play, Notre Dame is indeed a dark horse for the playoffs.
RobertNeyland 3
ssnider23 3
T-Thugs 3 Won a tough game at home against Michigan and their offense seemed to go into conservative, "don't blow it" mode once they were up 21-3. They seemed to move the ball well against a tough Michigan defense.
W_Is_For_Will 3 Shea Patterson was not Michigan's offensive savior and Notre Dame crucified him claiming to be it.
atchemey 4
Charlemagne42 4 Statement win against Michigan, but both teams still have major questions. ND can't afford to falter.

GilBrandt 4 Thought Notre Dame might struggle after losing Elko, but I was wrong. They struggled in some areas and excelled in others. It'll be interesting to see if they can stay up here.
Hey_Its_Roomie 4 Perhaps I'm giving them too much credit for beating what this Michigan team is, but only time will tell. But, an expectant 8-win Michigan doesn't leave out the idea that it is a solid win.

noahthearc 5 +3 spots. Notre Dame opened with a solid performance beating their rival Michigan. One of the better wins of the first week boosts them up.
relax_on_the_mat 5 Tennessee might be better than Michigan this year, which is why I'm ranking this win at home below the Noter Damer victory at home.

stripes361 6 Brandon Wimbush looked great early against Michigan before settling down a little too much. Notre Dame's offense checked out in the second half, which could signal an inability to put away better teams down the road. The Irish need to show more aptitude for "situational" football before I trust them to be a true national title contender.

hokies220 7 Allowed Michigan to stay in it a bit, but they played better than most expectations had them. Wimbush is still a legit dual threat and the defense looked good.
jmac_21 7 ND played some big boy football against Michigan in prime time, I think they're going to be really good.

PHubbs 7 The first big mover in my polls. I expected Notre Dame to actually fall off more from last year's 10 win campaign, but they're looking like a potential double digit winning team again. Wimbush impressed me with his elusiveness that will drive defenses crazy, but his accuracy needs to improve significantly to keep them as a top 10 team. His receivers did an incredible job to bail him out, and that should be good enough to get them to 4 wins before their two possible top 10 matchups. Notre Dame survived one of the few real tests a ranked team faced in week 1 and earned this spot by what they've done on the field and not just where we expect them to be.

woakley 7 Big win over Michigan this week. I really wasn't too high on Michigan this year, but they still deserve recognition for getting a ranked win

bgr308 8 If Auburn didn't have the best win on Saturday, it was Notre Dame. The offense had a good first half, but sputtered in the second against Michigan's stout defense. The defense looked good: forcing two turnovers, keeping Michigan's offense to a per rush average of 1.8 yards and 17 points. The Irish passed their first test of the season, but will have to play Stanford, @Virginia Tech, and Pitt in three consecutive weeks.
Bill3ffinMurray 8
Blooblod 8 Alohi Gilman is a dude. His addition to the Fighting Irish defense made a huge difference. Brandon Wimbush looked better passing the ball, but his receivers also bailed him out a lot. They have what looks to be the second best win at this point, bumping them up four spots to #8.

captain_sasquatch 8 Was ND's defense really good or was Michigan's offense really bad? Wimbush did look good. Still think it's a big win for ND. Let's see if they can last through November which seems to be their kryptonite.
CarbonCamaroZL1 8 Winning a Top 15 matchup (ugh) against us, however they looked awful second half only scoring 3 points. Had Michigan completed better time management, this game could have gone to OT and Michigan would have been on a roll with the defense finally coming alive. Tough to judge what is going on with this one.

monkeymatt1836 8 Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish came out with a point to prove and were quickly up 14-0 on Jim Harbaugh's Michigan Wolverines. From that point on, Notre Dame was in control. Notre Dame's defense dominated Michigan's offense. ND's DL lived in Michigan's backfield, and continuously rattled QB Shea Patterson. Irish QB Brandon Wimbush looked improved, but still won't light the world on fire through the air.

nickknx865 8 My preseason projections had ND 5th. Perhaps they're overrated, but I thought they looked good against Michigan, and while I caution myself to say "Notre Dame is a national title contender," I can't help but think it this early on.

Miami_da_U 9 They beat Michigan. But I just don't trust they'll play well vs a team that has elite athleticism like Miami and UGA last year. Ultimately Brandon Wimbush can lose them games, or he can win them games. Impressive win nonetheless, and the next test is Stanford and VTech. But Stanford is exactly the type of team ND will play well against. And I'm still not sold on VTech.

xelphin 9 Notre Dame came out swinging and before the half scored enough points to eventually win it. Coming out against Michigan as a season opener was an extremely bold move, but they came out on top at home to prove they have the chops.
