TheJeemTeam Ballot for 2018 Week 2

Ballot Type: Hybrid

Submitted: Sept. 4, 2018, 5:35 p.m.

Overall Rationale: My hybrid poll utilizes two computer polls. A preseason component that I will phase out as the season goes along and a results-oriented poll. The preseason component is 85% this week and the results-oriented poll is 15%.The Preseason component is made up of Past season's results, Returning production, 2 year recruiting Avg., and Coaching continuity. The results-oriented component is made up of Winning %, Points per Game differential, Yards per Play differential, and Strength of Schedule.Once the overall rankings are developed, I split the teams that are close to each other into tiers and re-rank within the tiers. This week the tiers were as follows:Tier A: 1-2Tier B: 3-4Tiers C-F: 5-8 (1 team slotted into each tier)Tier G: 9-12Tier H: 13Tier I: 14-18Tier J: 19-20Tier K: 21-28The 3 teams that were in Tier K, but that I did not rank were Miami, Florida State, and Oklahoma State

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide 1/2 in Tier A: Looked dominant against a quality Louisville team
Clemson Tigers 2/2 in Tier A: Behind Bama for now, due to the Crimson Tide's much higher quality Week 1 opponent
Georgia Bulldogs 1/2 in Tier B: Took care of business against Austin Peay
Ohio State Buckeyes 2/2 in Tier B: Ranked behind Georgia within Tier due to questions on Defense in allowing 31 points against Oregon State.
Wisconsin Badgers Only Tier C team
Mississippi State Bulldogs Only Tier D team
Oklahoma Sooners Only Tier E team
Florida Gators Only Tier F team
Notre Dame Fighting Irish 1/4 in Tier G: Beat a good Michigan team
Texas A&M Aggies 2/4 in Tier G: Blew out Northwestern State
Washington Huskies 3/4 in Tier G: Despite loss, it was to a quality Auburn team on the opposite side of the country.
Stanford Cardinal 4/4 in Tier G: Ranked behind Washington due to unimpressive showing against SDSU.
Michigan State Spartans Only Tier H team
Auburn Tigers 1/5 in Tier I: Beat good Washington team
Utah Utes 2/5 in Tier I: Explosive on Offense, despite slow start against Weber State
Boston College Eagles 3/5 in Tier I: Dominated UMass
Michigan Wolverines 4/5 in Tier I: Despite loss, it was on the road against a quality ND team.
USC Trojans 5/5 in Tier I: Overall unimpressive showing against UNLV. Questions on Defense, particularly against the Run.
Penn State Nittany Lions 1/2 in Tier J: Despite being taken to OT, placed atop Tier due to the reasons given in the GT reasons.
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 2/2 in Tier J: Dominated FCS Alcorn State. Placed here as personally I don't think they're anywhere near deserving of being ranked, but my computer likes them a lot. YPP differential in particular helped them I believe.
Northwestern Wildcats 1/8 in Tier K: Away win against decent Purdue team on the road.
Memphis Tigers 2/8 in Tier K: Dominated FCS Mercer. Highest ranked G5 team by my computer. G5 teams were under-ranked in Preseason rankings IMO, likely due to the Recuriting Avg. component. Due to the Preseason ranking still being 85% of my computer rankings, it will likely take a couple weeks for G5 teams to be properly ranked.
South Carolina Gamecocks 3/8 in Tier K: Edge over TCU/Mizzou due to having a more explosive offense in opening game and doing so against a Sun Belt team (compared with FCS teams by the other teams)
TCU Horned Frogs 4/8 in Tier K
Missouri Tigers 5/8 in Tier K: Missouri gets last spot over Miami (7/8 in Tier K), FSU (8/8 in Tier K), or Oklahoma State (6/8 in Tier K). Miami & FSU were blown out in openers. Oklahoma State has a lot of questions despite beating up on Missouri State.
