monkeymatt1836 Ballot for 2018 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 4, 2018, 3:47 p.m.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama rolled Louisville 51-14 and continued their dominance in neutral site openers. This game was over before halftime, thanks to a brilliant performance of 12-16 for 277 yards, 2 TDs, and a rushing TD by true sophomore QB Tua Tagovailoa. The Tide totaled 519 yards of offense, allowed only 0.6 yards per rush, and totaled 11 tackles for loss. Alabama should be 12-0, or 11-1 at worst, going into the SEC Championship.
Clemson Tigers Clemson played FCS Furman, and as expected, tore them up 48-7. A lot of players on the 2 deep were able to get minutes in a warm up for a trip to College Station to face Texas A&M next week. Freshman QB Trevor Lawrence, who may potentially usurp incumbent Kelly Bryant as the starting QB, made his debut and threw for 3 TDs, 60% completion rate, and a team high 137 yards.
Wisconsin Badgers Wisconsin hit cruise control at half time against Western Kentucky winning 34-3. Heisman hopeful RB Jonathan Taylor had 145 yards and a pair of TDs.
Ohio State Buckeyes Ohio State played with an edge against Oregon State to the tune of a 77-31 in the first game of 3 without head coach Urban Meyer on the sidelines. Dwayne Haskins looks to be a terrific pocket passer, finishing the game 23-30 for 313 yards, 5 TDs, and 1 INT. The biggest surprise of this game was Oregon State being able to score 31 points on the Buckeye defense riddled with NFL talent.
Georgia Bulldogs The Dawgs barked their way to an easy win against FCS Autin Peay 45-0.
Auburn Tigers Auburn had a statement win against the likely PAC12 best #6 Washington Huskies in a neutral site opener. Auburn's tenacious red zone defense was the difference maker in this early season top 10 match up. The Auburn DL dominated the line of scrimmage, recording 7 TFLs and 5 sacks. Jarrett Stidham and the Tiger offense did enough to win the game, but certainly didn't light the PNW on fire.
Oklahoma Sooners Lincoln Riley's Sooner squad destroyed the FAU Fighting Kiffins 68-14, nearly handing them their worst loss in school history. Oklahoma's offense was so electric they were able to rest the starters 8 minutes into the second quarter. Baseball start Kyler Murray sure has some big shoes to fill following Baker Mayfield, but he's off to a great start.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Brian Kelly's Fighting Irish came out with a point to prove and were quickly up 14-0 on Jim Harbaugh's Michigan Wolverines. From that point on, Notre Dame was in control. Notre Dame's defense dominated Michigan's offense. ND's DL lived in Michigan's backfield, and continuously rattled QB Shea Patterson. Irish QB Brandon Wimbush looked improved, but still won't light the world on fire through the air.
Washington Huskies The Huskies dropped a close game to Auburn in Atlanta, 21-16. Ultimately too many mistakes in the red zone cost UW the game. Jake Browning wasn't able to control the game like Chris Petersen may have liked. While they are not officially out of the playoff race, they certainly need to win out, including in the PAC12 Championship Game, in order to have a shot at securing a bid to the final 4.
Michigan State Spartans Michigan State had a close Friday night opener against the Utah State Aggies, as is tradition. Spartan faithful should be used to these games by now, as they tend to open the season in very vanilla fashion.
TCU Horned Frogs
Penn State Nittany Lions
Stanford Cardinal
West Virginia Mountaineers
Virginia Tech Hokies
Boise State Broncos
Mississippi State Bulldogs
USC Trojans
Oregon Ducks
South Carolina Gamecocks
LSU Tigers
Northwestern Wildcats
UCF Knights
Oklahoma State Cowboys
NC State Wolfpack
