2022 Week 2 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Rankings

Main Poll Voters

User Rank Reason
crownebeach 4 Awesome defensive effort, and I really like what I see from their quarterback. I don't think this team looks like a title threat, but...they're not far off. They could run the table and get in, and if they've settled into an offensive identity by that point, I do think they could threaten 1-3 on some level. The talent is there if they ever find The Guy at quarterback.
kamiller2020 4 That could've gone much much worse. ND gave themselves a fighting chance in this game, when most people thought they'd get crushed. The offense wasn't good but....it's week 1 with a new QB. However the defense was spectacular against a unit many think is the best in CFB. If they get that kind of effort all year than Notre Dame is a playoff team. If any case the September 24th game vs UNC is must-watch TV.

SCsprinter13 6
ShamusJohnson13 6 That defense is either really damn good or Ohio State's offense is not what was promised. I hope it's the former for Notre Dame's sake, because when that offense gets healthy again, and that defense is beastly, Notre Dame would not only be in a position to sneak into the Playoff, but possibly win a game and make the title. If it's the latter, then Freeman's first season at the helm might be a bit bumpy. The good news is that it looks like Kelly was actually holding the Irish back.

peachios 8 well they kept it close for awhile, and lost to a team who should "easily" make the playoffs, and they wont (could make it not easily tho) but dropping some du eot so early and losses are losses

nw____ 9 Looked as good as a team can in a loss. It was closer than the score. They looked as tough as I’ve seen them look in years. Once they settle in, they will be even scarier. Still need to see them deliver in a big game, though. Strangely enough, I was really impressed by what they showed despite only putting up 10 and being shut out after halftime. The potential and talent are not the issue.

Arteza147 10 Loss to OSU does not warrant massive dropoff from last week especially considering they managed to keep it a tight game for the majority of the contest. Offensive line play will continue to be a question mark that may drop them further in the future.
Blazeth 10
bretticus33 10 Everyone expected Notre Dame to get blown out but they played Ohio State almost as well as they could have. Props to the Irish for holding their own in Columbus and limiting Ohio State's offense to just 21 points.

Our-Gardian-Angel 10 Week 1: Ohio State 21, Notre Dame 10 Record: 0-1 It's another loss for Notre Dame in a big game and I don't think moral victories are what their fans are looking for at this point, but there's nothing for the Irish to hang their heads about in the first game of Marcus Freeman's first full season as head coach. They still look like a team that should be contending for an NY6 bowl.

DylanCarlson3 15 I loved Notre Dame's first half, and was pleasantly surprised by how Buchner performed early. Hated the second half, especially the fourth quarter, where it felt like Notre Dame was playing just to keep it close rather than to win. At the end of the day, they lost on the road to a likely playoff team by two possessions, which is not exactly a terrible loss.

bannista7 9 Not a typical drop for a loss since their defense showed up against one of the most (projected) talented offenses in the nation. All around a good showing. LW: 5
Beck4ou 9 Down from #7. A valiant fight from the Irish, they held an incredibly talented offense to only 21 points. It's difficult to come into the Horseshoe week 1 and stay with such a prolific offense, covering the spread and disrupting the Buckeyes should make them feel proud of their performance. Offense was not great but the OSU defense is much improved, also points for the Fullback TD.

Dawg-Bite 10 I originally had Notre Dame around #15 in my last poll because I just didn’t think they’d have the pieces to be top 10, but they proved me wrong and played Ohio State close. The offense needs more explosiveness but rn I’d say ND is a rare case of losing yet still moving up in the rankings.

JB_Gibson 10 I can't think of a reason to push them lower. They did everything they could, but a new head coach got beat by an experienced coach... It's that simple, and I think there was ample opportunity for it to swing the other way. I am still wondering why there were 3 runs on a 1st and 25 though....
