bretticus33 Ballot for 2022 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 5, 2022, 11:28 p.m.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Even after losing a million players from last season's team, Georgia still dominated Oregon and didn't look like they were missing anyone. Could be best team, but they have the best win after Week 1.
Ohio State Buckeyes Their offense was largely held in check, but Ohio State's defense looked massively improved. Ohio State is #2 because they have the 2nd best win in the country.
Alabama Crimson Tide Alabama looked like normal Alabama against Utah State and now go on the road OOC for the first time since 2011. They fell to #3 because of the wins picked up by Georgia and Ohio State.
Clemson Tigers Clemson's defense was as good as advertised, but the offense looked a lot like last season's offense. DJU is probably the biggest thing holding the offense back and if Dabo makes a switch to Klubnik, the offense might improve.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan looked stellar against a bad CSU team and gets to look stellar again against an even worse Hawaii team. Wolverines are opening up as 51 point favorites.
Oklahoma Sooners The start to the Brent Venables era went swimmingly and the Sooners defense looked quite good. Still a lot to prove for the Sooners but they were one of the most impressive teams in Week 1.
Texas A&M Aggies A&M pitched a shutout but scoring only 31 could be seen as a low amount. Regardless it was a dominating win as it should have been but App State could present an interesting test.
Arkansas Razorbacks Arkansas picked up one of the more low-key impressive wins by giving Cincinnati their first regular season loss in over 1000 days. Arkansas can cause real trouble in the SEC but probably won't have enough to get past Alabama.
Baylor Bears Baylor looked about as good as they should have against Albany but the real test for the Bears comes in Week 2 when they travel to Provo to play BYU.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Everyone expected Notre Dame to get blown out but they played Ohio State almost as well as they could have. Props to the Irish for holding their own in Columbus and limiting Ohio State's offense to just 21 points.
Wisconsin Badgers Wisconsin shut out Illinois State and looked like the Wisconsin we'd expect to see. They get Washington State at home this weekend in their first test against a P5 team.
Miami Hurricanes The Cristobal era kicked off with a huge win over Bethune-Cookman and Miami looked like one of the most impressive teams in Week 1. However, given the recent histories of Cristobal and Miami, I'm hesitant to put the Canes higher.
BYU Cougars BYU is still one of the more underrated teams in the country and they'll get the chance to prove themselves at home when Baylor comes to town. Baylor beat them in a close one last season and I'm sure BYU wants to return the favor.
Florida Gators Florida picked up one of the best wins in Week 1 when they beat Utah in the Swamp. Richardson has the makings of the next national superstar.
USC Trojans USC lived up to the hype so far in Week 1 when they destroyed Rice. I was left really impressed by the complete decimation and how different the team looked from last season's USC. Stanford shouldn't present much of a challenge.
Oklahoma State Cowboys Oklahoma State came into the season as a favorite to win the Big 12, but their defense that led the team to success last season looked like a shell of itself against CMU. There were a lot of losses, including DC Jim Knowles, but giving up 44 to CMU is not a good sign.
Utah Utes Utah had a chance to get their season off with a huge win, but fell short. Utah's CFP hopes took a massive hit but they should still finish the season strong.
Ole Miss Rebels The Lane Train didn't get off to the best start with an unconvincing win over Troy. Lane will want to see his offense score more points.
NC State Wolfpack NC State came into the season as a popular pick to win the ACC and maybe sneak into the CFP, but they're extremely fortunate their season didn't start with a loss to ECU. They won officially, but they might as well have lost hence the drop. NC State needs to do better
Pittsburgh Panthers I wasn't sold on Pitt to start the season, but their offense looked pretty good despite losing their QB, star WR, and OC in the offseason. I don't know that Pitt will be as strong this season, but they'll still be a good team.
Houston Cougars Houston gets the step up over Cincinnati for now with the Bearcats losing, but Houston didn't do much to impress. The Cougars needed to comeback against UTSA and then blew their own lead to let this one get to OT.
Michigan State Spartans I had a lot of questions about MSU and while they won by 22, I don't know that those questions have been answered. I'm not sold on the offense without Walker and with Thorne leading the unit.
Oregon Ducks Oregon looked like a non-competitive team. Bo Nix is not the answer at QB they've been looking for the last few years and the Ducks have a lot of work to do. The PAC-12 is still alive for them but the CFP dream is dead.
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Wake Forest looked good against VMI and it was nice to see their offense score without Hartman. However, Wake still suffers in the ranking because of the absence of Hartman. When/If he comes back, Wake should move back up the rankings assuming they aren't losing.
Kentucky Wildcats Kentucky took care of business against Miami (OH) but now with the Wildcats going to Florida, can Will Levis shoulder the offense against the Gators since it seems like Chris Rodriguez won't be playing? And how does the UK defense do against Richardson?
