Due_Connection179 Ballot for 2022 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 6, 2022, 6:42 a.m.

Overall Rationale: I watch as many games as I can, and the ones I don't I read the entire play-by-plays (even the top 5 teams vs FCS teams). I've done my own polls in Google Sheets since about 2007, and with the start of the CFP I have gotten at least 75% of the playoff rankings (top 4) right. I also build my pre-season poll around the top 33 of the AP poll, with my own tweeks of course, then after the week 1 games I make my own 100% of the time. I should also say that one of my tie-breaking methods is "what would happen if this team won out", so knowing that the committee favors the SEC & Big Ten, I will make those two conferences win most "tie-breakers". For this week I want to example a couple of my rankings. I have Oklahoma State #4 and Baylor #6 in my pre-season poll and for my week 2 poll. I'm not 100% confident on which one will run the table at this moment, but my gut right now is telling me that Oklahoma State will. They were 1-yard away last season from knocking out Cincinnati from the CFP, and I think this season they finally make that push. As for Baylor, I still like them a lot and they have a huge game coming against (my #22) BYU on the road, but I also think they don't have a favorable schedule to run the table this season (back-to-back-to-back weeks: @ Iowa State, vs (my #4) Oklahoma State, @ West Virginia then @ (my #18) Oklahoma later on). USC at #7. I am a Lincoln Riley truther and I think that he will continue winning at USC (like he did at OU), and with Utah losing at Florida & Oregon getting a nuke dropped on them, I don't see much resistance to USC claiming a PAC-12 title this season. Wisconsin at #8 & Michigan at #9. I tend to overrate Wisconsin every season, so this is probably another one of those cases, but I love their system and they turn 2/3-star players into 5-stars every year it seems like. I feel Michigan will regress a little bit to either 9-3 or 10-2, but we'll see as the season goes on. #10-13 Clemson-Kentucky-Arkansas-Notre Dame. I could have put these guys in almost any order, so they will get sorted out over the next few weeks when I see more of their games. #16 Penn State. Going on the road to Purdue never seems to be easy anymore, so their close win there doesn't scare me from putting them this high. I picked them to win their division last season (before the injuries), but going on the road to Ohio State this season might put those to bed early for me. If healthy, they are my darkhorse "started the season unranked" team that could make the CFP. #18 Oklahoma. Zero belief in the coaching staff. #19-33. Still early in the season so there will be a lot of change in these spots as I keep seeing the teams play. The teams that just missed and are ranked 26-33 are: Florida State, NC State, Fresno State, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, Minnesota, UCF, and Iowa.
