bretticus33 11 Last season did not start off well for Notre Dame, going 2-3 including home losses to Marshall and Stanford. However, they turned it around and ended the season 9-4. Notre Dame made the biggest splash in the transfer season by landing Sam Hartman to play QB for the Gold instead of Wake Forest, and he should be a major upgrade at the position. Defensively, there’s a lot of continuity and Year 2 in Al Golden’s system should reap rewards.

fredmerc111 11 Marcus Freeman has turned it around after a horrid start last season. I am in love with Sam Hartman. If this defense can get the offense back out on the field in good field position, I think we see the highest scoring Fighting Irish team in quite a while.

crownebeach 14 Notre Dame returns a ton of production and has national title roster talent. These guys could easily get to the playoff. What holds me back is the offensive line -- a unit that was always a strength under Brian Kelly and has plenty of talent looked clueless and poorly coached last year. They got pushed around by Stanford, for heaven's sake. Answer those questions, and ND could be a 2024 title sleeper.

ikindalikelemons 15 Notre Dame, to me, is largely nondescript but solid. After some bruises last season, ND closed strong and beat a good SCAR team in their bowl. They enter this season a bit under the radar but ready to do some damage. Gimme 9 wins from the Irish idk.

Corgi_Koala 17 Hartman raises this team's ceiling, but with Ohio State, USC, and Clemson on the schedule I think that 9-3 or 10-2 is the best this team can do and that won't make the playoffs.

NyquillusDillwad20 19 Perhaps a bit low given the talent they return, but I'm still not sold on Freeman. However, Sam Hartman may be one of the most impactful transfers of the offseason. QB has been holding Notre Dame back for years. The OSU matchup will be a fun game and will tell us a lot about each team.

charmingcharles2896 13 I am a firm believer that this Fighting Irish team is overrated by most people. The don't have a proven QB, nor do they play a particularly physical brand of football. I'm not confident in their coaching staff as well, so don't expect anything close to championship caliber football from this team. They'll scare some teams, but when the chips are down, they won't beat OSU, nor teams like Clemson.

spaceblev11 13 Notre Dame is a scam, it's just a football team to push Jesus, and NBC is under their spell. Also how is Lou Holtz not dead yet?
SpursUpSoundsGudToMe 13 Rough opening to the season, but credit to Freeman for keeping it together and finishing strong. I think they grow from that.

TinderForMidgets 14 Last season was rough but Notre Dame has a strong core of players in their offensive line and running backs. However, the Fighting Irish have a young inexperienced coach that struggled last season and questions marks at the quarterback position. Notre Dame could very well rise above this ranking but it's unlikely that they will be national championship contenders this season. Expected the storied program to make some noise but not national championship noise.

ScaratheBear 15 Ah, what to say of Notre Dame. They lost to Marshall as well as 3-9 Stanford, but beat up the ACC Champs and red hot South Carolina in an eventual 9-4 season. Year 2 of the Marcus Freeman era is headlined by 2 things. First, Sam Hartman comes in as maybe the best QB the Irish have had since... Brady Quinn? Two, the Irish play almost inarguably the toughest schedule in the country, with Ohio State and USC coming to town as well as a trip to Death Valley in November. If the Irish are to return to the playoff, they'll have earned it. The season starts this Saturday (8/26) with a trip to Ireland against Navy.

throwaway_6786 19 2022 had an awful start (and an incomprehensible loss to Stanford), but Marcus Freeman righted the ship and the Irish finished strong (they were #18 in my final poll). I have them at #19 because they're bringing in a new QB in Sam Hartman and while I'm confident in the ND defense, the offense leaves something to be desired (losing Michael Mayer to the NFL is a main cause of this). I'm wary of overranking ND due to their prestige, but they have been solid over the Kelly/Freeman era, so we'll see how they start this time around.
