2023 Preseason TCU Horned Frogs Rankings

Main Poll Voters

User Rank Reason
70stang 2 They beat Michigan head to head, so I placed them over UM in the poll. They played a title game under a playoff system, they are definitively better than the team they had to beat to get to that game.

NyquillusDillwad20 11 The defending runner-up is likely to take a pretty big step back after the Cinderella run and losing some key players. But I think they can still make a run in the wide open Big 12.

peachios 12 I think I have a little high compared to others, but still way lower than their end last year. Their qb gone is rough, and the perceived talent just isn't as high as the top who always just can stay on top no matter what. Rich get to stay rich I amsorry to say, maybe do again this year and I'll leave there too

ikindalikelemons 16 TCU may have been murdered on national TV in January, and as a UGA alum I enjoyed it. And while losing by 58 in the natty is a sour taste, what last year's run did do was put TCU on the map as a destination for recruits and especially transfer players. I feel like half of Bama's transfers this offseason ended up in Fort Worth. Sonny Dykes' roster this year may not be NY6 worthy, but rest assured TCU will be good for a long time.

bretticus33 20 TCU is losing so much production from 2022 that I considered not having them here at all. Their star QB, RB, and WR are all getting replaced among others on the offense, and the defense might not be good enough to keep them in games. However I have trust in Sonny Dykes to keep TCU above water and although I don’t like Kendal Briles, he is a good offensive mind but replacing Garrett Riley won’t be easy. I think TCU will be good, but nowhere near 2022 good.
coletheredditer 20 13 players on last years team are now in the NFL, 13!
Corgi_Koala 20 Dykes massively overachieved and a stepback is likely, but I think that it's hard to overlook the potential TCU has in general. 4th best in the conference still has them as top 20 for me.
crownebeach 20 Like Kansas State, last year is gonna be hard to top, but they'll score points in abundance (all Arizona fans love Sonny Dykes) and they're one of the most talented teams in the conference. 9-3? Ish?

FourteenClocks 5 Poor Texas Christians; they had the world on their side until they got fleeced in California, which is not new to Sonny Dykes. But... this was the most improbably bulletproof champion (well, almost) that the Big 12 has had in some time. I wouldn't count on the magic being out until they start looking ordinary--and they might, if Brisket Brother Garrett Riley was the real magician, but we don't know that yet! And they still have the QB they were regularly scheduled to have last year. So here they are.

throwaway_6786 5 I realize they lost Max Duggan and many other major contributors from last year's #2 squad, but I'm not ready to drop them too far before any games are played. TCU has had a handful of fantastic seasons over the last 10-15 years, and I think that they deserve a little respect in these rankings for getting to the National Championship Game, something only 6 other teams have done in the CFP era. Maybe they won't repeat what they did last year, but the coaching staff under Sonny Dykes is still mostly intact and they still have the talent to make another run.

SundownSaloon 11 Excited to watch this team play CU, because after being on the mountaintops of the CFP I want to see them shakedown against a P5 opponent. I know CU is going to bring some heat because of all the s*** talking on the 1-11 team that’s been completely flipped.

TinderForMidgets 17 TCU has a lot of problems. They have lost a ton of offensive talent, QB Max Duggan, WR Quentin Johnston, RB Kendre Miller, and RB Emari Demercade are gone. Their defense needs to take a leap. Even then, the Longhorns can be a reasonably decent team if their defense improves and their offense reloads. They have a lot of potential but also a lot of question marks.

ScaratheBear 20 It's going to be a tough season for the Frogs, for a number of reasons. First, to improve upon last year would mean winning the National title. That's a hell of a mountain to climb in the first place. Second, TCU's turnover from last season is immense. They're ranked 118th in returning production, with only 3 starters coming back on what was a clutch offense from last year.
