bretticus33 7 Marcus Freeman steps up to the plate in his first season as ND's HC and per usual, Notre Dame should be a strong team. Replacing 8 defensive starters isn't fun but their defensive line will be one of the country's best.

nw____ 7 I am a believer in Freeman but think it might take a few years for him to get ND where he would like them to be. In the meantime, they'll still be an excellent team. Even with all of the consistency on the staff, I can't help but wonder whether Kelly's departure leaves them with a few growing pains. In a year or two, watch out.

MrTheSpork 8 Great season and solid chunk returns; fairly dominant; lost HC; excellent recruiting. Big questions about Freeman, but talent is still there; OU is slightly higher as Venables has a longer track record.

SpadeRyker 8 This is a tough team to predict, it's hard to deny that they benefited from a favorable schedule last year and will have a gauntlet to run through this time. However, they return a lot of talent and may have benefited from a coaching shake-up that brings in a new leader with new ideas. Maybe the change will bring Notre Dame to the promised land and maybe the schedule will weight them down. Should be a fun season.

ThePelvicWoo 8 Beta_Rank had them at number 5, decided to slide them down a couple spots due to having a 1st time head coach.

woakley 8 A lot of production to replace, and a new head coach. This makes Notre Dame hard to predict. I think Marcus Freeman is up to the challenge and the team does have a strong 2021 recruiting class to build from.

owl_man 14 Marcus Freeman might be stepping into the biggest shoes in college football now. At least Venables has a pissed-off fanbase behind him. I think the Irish faithful are still just as confused as the rest of us as to why BK left (see $$$). But, I also think he'll keep them moving right along with regards to recruiting. Now, how will he do with in-game decisions? We'll find out when they visit Columbus.

noahthearc 19 118.4 points -> NY6 Contender. The season could go a lot of ways for the Irish. Their fans think they have a team that's worthy of a NY6, but the metric has them on the fringe of competing for a NY6. Probably an absolute floor of 7-5 with an absolute ceiling of 11-1 and a likely 8-4 or 9-3.
Charlemagne42 21 The Irish's 9-3 finish won't be 100% their fault. After all, their schedule will feature two playoff teams and also Clemson. Maybe they'd have more success playing in (half of) a Pacific conference instead of an Atlantic conference?

donald_flap 3 Not much to say here except their only major loses over the offseason were Kyle Hamilton and their HC, but I can’t see them going anywhere but up.
fredmerc111 3 Always a threat, a great all-around team. They’ve upgraded at coach and QB.

dusklord1 6 This pick puts a lot of faith in Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame's trenches, perhaps too much. They're breaking in a first time head coach and a new quarterback. Although their line play will be great, there are lots of question marks at QB and receiver. Their schedule does them no favors either. OSU and Clemson should both be favored to beat them. BYU and @USC are also losable games, not to mention a handful of plausible (albeit unlikely) upsets like UNC and Stanford. If Marcus Freeman lives up to the hype and Buchner is serviceable, this is a 10-2 or 11-1 team that's at least in a NY6 game. If there are major growing pains, they might be a 7-8 win team. I think the former is far more likely than the latter though.

jthomas694 6 A lot to like on the defensive side of the ball. The OL should be better than last year, which will allow the offense to be better

mcguffinman 9 Marcus Freeman might've choked away his first game as the Irish HC, and week 1's opener is not what I'd call a cupcake, having to play in the 'shoe, and I don't like their chances in that game, but I believe the Irish will be incredibly well coached, well prepared, and that defense will be electric.

RaceScottRace 10 I don't think Notre Dame is one of the elite teams in the country when it comes to talent. I don't think they're in the same stratosphere as Ohio State, and Week 1 will prove that. I also think having a first-year head coach will be harder than think, even if there's a lot of continuity there. But hey, if they prove me wrong, then they prove me wrong. The Irish are still much better than *most* teams they'll play.

zachismadewell 10 ND is a talented team, that loses a lot. Losing their HC, QB, and struggles at WR make me not rank them higher. #10 is a good spot for them in my opinion, and I am a believer in Freeman but I need to see it to believe it. #10 is generous
CallMeTheKing 11
eeman0201 11 I have yet to be sold on notre dame being as good as they are usually bolstered to be. I am very open to moving them up if they look dominant in their p5 games

ewolfy13 14 Notre Dame benefitted from a weak schedule last year, they play a tougher schedule this year, combined with losing upper classmen to the draft, and a new head coach who blew a big lead in his first appearance in a bowl game, they should not be legit CFP contenders this year

Dawg-Bite 15 I feel like a new QB coupled with other production losses and a coach in his first full year as HC may not be the recipe for a top 10 team. Maybe they’ll prove me wrong.
