2022 Preseason Texas A&M Aggies Rankings

eclectic_tastes 3 This could be the year for the Aggies. Jimbo has stacked classes on top of classes leading up to this year in recruiting, and I think they've finally achieved the mixture of experience and Freshmen contributors to compete for a National Title. The defensive line will be deep and exciting to watch.

EpicSchwinn 4 I’m all in on the hype. 2022 is the prove it year for the Jimbo/TAMU experiment and could potentially be the year we look back on the changing of the SEC guard.

bretticus33 8 As they have the last couple years, A&M has as much talent as just about anyone in the country. The question is if they can turn it into a season that's better than 8-4 and be more competitive in the SEC race.

SpadeRyker 10 This is a team with lots of variance in how high it can soar and how far it can fall. Just looking at last season, TAMU was taking down giants like Alabama but tripped up on too many pebbles to capitalize on that win to make a claim to the division title. This year there's some hope they can challenge Bama again with a new QB and a gluttony of blue chip talent, a defense that was elite a year ago though this time without its DC, and a hungry mentality that should give them a chance. How far they go is up to how well they prepare when the opponent isn't Bama.

Charlemagne42 11 The Aggies won't actually be worthy of the #Top11 ranking, but the BOMC will make sure they're ranked highly to pad Bama's SoS. Which is Texas's fault, somehow. Special thanks to TexAgs, for generously sponsoring this comment and Texas's invitation to the SEC. Anyway, A&M will make a NY6 bowl on a 9-3 record and a whole lotta hype.

nw____ 13 I am lower on A&M than some places seem to be. I think they might be worth a top 10 ranking next year as their stellar recruiting classes have more time to develop. This year? I'll believe it when I see it. I expect a very solid defense but have a lot of questions about their offense. This is another team I don't know what to expect from. They may have an 11-win season. I could just as easily see them having another 8-4 season (which, I have to say, would be hilarious).

RheagarTargaryen 15 Sure, Texas A&M finished 8-4 last year with a win over Alabama but that OOC schedule was abysmal and that 4-4 conference record was shoddy. Still a good team with a lot of potential, but that potential is a mystery with returning just 9 starters from last year.

zachismadewell 6 Texas "8-4" had the #3 scoring defense last season, and loses their QB (usually a bad thing), but in the case of Zach Calzada, it is a net positive. In 3 of their 4 losses, Zach Calzada had a passer rating below 50 (MSST, Ole Miss, and Arkansas). Defense should be elite once again, and getting a new QB in the system eases my concerns.

dusklord1 9 Last year, A&M was a quarterback away from being a NY6 caliber team. Instead, they went 8-4. Could they go 8-4 this year, even with good QB play? Yes. The SEC west is ridiculously stacked. No team in the west is a free win and A&M's monster '22 class will not immediately contribute. However, the three previous classes were all top 10 and Jimbo Fisher is a great coach. Thus, I'd tend to give the nod to the #2 slot in the west and a NY6 bid to A&M. The safe bet is that they lose horribly to Alabama and get upset by some SEC West team like MSU or Auburn, but run the table otherwise.
horaff 9
MADBuc49 9
RaceScottRace 9 A&M is one of the most talented teams in the country, but Jimbo can never put it together unless he has "his guy" at QB. Does he have a QB like that right now? I've yet to see proof, but no doubt that the Aggies are super talented and can climb these rankings with better quarterback play.

mcguffinman 18 Texas A&M's best season under Jiimbo was in 2020, ironically enough that's when Kellen Mond went from a meh QB to an above average QB. That's all Jimbo needs to win but I don't think Max Johnson is the answer. Jimbo recruited the best class in history last year but this years class won't be what takes them to the promised land of the CFP final 4. At least not this year.
