woakley 9 A new coach makes Oregon a big question mark (just like Notre Dame above). I think they can keep positive momentum up, and a top 10 recruiting class in 2021 can't hurt either

bretticus33 11 Oregon disappointed last season with two blowout losses to Utah, but there's optimism with new HC Dan Lanning and with Auburn-transfer QB Bo Nix. If the Ducks can get the most out of Nix and the returning vets and stars like Noah Sewell, Oregon should contend with Utah for the PAC-12.

MrTheSpork 11 Good season and solid chunk returns; fairly lucky (4-2 in one possession); lost HC; excellent recruiting. Hard to determine where Lanning will end up, but should be good and the talent is there; not nearly as strong as teams above.

nw____ 11 I think Lanning was a great hire and, in particular, a great successor to Cristobal. The team will continue to be tough and play with an edge. The problem? I am still not sure they'll be tougher or more physical than Utah, who punched them in the mouth (twice!) last season. Still, in a(nother) down year for the PAC-12, I don't see many sure losses here. They could be heading into Washington State 1-2 but, especially since I figure they'll improve as the season goes on and they get more familiar with Lanning, could be a team people are sleeping on by the end.

PromEmperorHarbaugh 11 I liked the HC hire, and perhaps Lanning can get more out of his guys than Cristobal, who I think somewhat underachieved.
Red261 11
RheagarTargaryen 11 Lots of returning starters with a strong O-Line, but a new HC and QB could be an issue this year.

owl_man 13 I don't know what to expect from Oregon this year, I'm intrigued by their defensive talent and Dan Lanning as HC. Also, Bo Nix is fresh and healthy and playing loose...or however that damn meme goes.

SpadeRyker 14 After last year, it's hard to trust Oregon. A great start to the season, beating OSU on the road, made me super optimistic for them but then they just kept struggling against foes they should easily best and eventually fell in increasingly horrific fashion, including two blowout losses to Utah. Similar to what I said for Notre Dame, maybe a coaching change will bring some new energy and ideas to get this team playing at their full potential finally.
ThePelvicWoo 14 Beta_Rank #14 - could have dropped them a couple spots due to having a 1st time head coach, but decided to leave them here

fredmerc111 8 This is the year. Bo Nix has improved so much under this new offense. He’s focused. He’s having fun. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a dark horse for the Heisman.

RaceScottRace 11 I like the Ducks. I want to believe. Problem is, they got thwacked by Utah twice last year because, unlike the Utes, they lacked that dawg in them. Lanning might change that, though. He could be exactly who they need right now.

donald_flap 12 I am very unsure about Oregon. They always have a new head coach but they are always consistent in how good they are, so I will be lenient on them. However, they have a lot to prove and I don’t see them being as good in the early season as they were last year.

bannista7 13 Season opener against UGA and then BYU 2 weeks later will be tough for a new head coach. Bo Nix’s time at Auburn has me skeptical.
dusklord1 13 Oregon had a weird year last year. They beat a very good OSU team, lost a dubious game to Stanford, proceeded to continue winning, and then got blown out by Utah twice. They have a new coach this year, which could be great if you think Mario Cristobal was a great recruiter but mediocre game day coach. They definitely have the talent to be the #1 or #2 team in the Pac12, but their OOC schedule is brutal ("neutral" site vs Georgia and vs BYU). I don't think any of the Pac 12 teams are good enough to pull away from the pack and win the conference with the requisite one loss or less to contend for the playoffs.

mcguffinman 13 Dan Lanning is an incredible coordinator. I hate his guts cause THWG but his ability is remarkable. Bo Nix has a decent enough upside now that he's crawled out of the dumpster fire that is Auburn football. Week 1 in Atlanta will be an enormous challenge, but with Georgia's numerous losses on the defensive side, there's a chance the former 4x loser of the Deep South's Oldest Rivalry gets revenge.
