ShamusJohnson13 Ballot for 2022 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 6, 2022, 2:50 a.m.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide I've been rolling with the Tide since I knew I'd be going there for school, and this is probably the first time they've opened the season with such a smothering. It was practically flawless execution from the first teamers against a team I expected some first game hiccups against. There were none, and that's terrifying to whoever is hoping this might be a down year for the Tide.
Georgia Bulldogs Georgia also did terrifyingly well, but they might have done *too* well. Maybe Oregon was overrated and didn't deserve to be there. Maybe they pulled a Bucs-Raiders Super Bowl 37 "Hey I know that playbook" maneuver. Regardless, for now they sit at 1b slightly behind Alabama and can easily have been 1a with that impressive dismantling of a P5 opponent .
Michigan Wolverines I know I know, this one will get me some hate, but I am bullish on this team. I like the way they're built, I think Harbaugh is a great coach, and I think everyone is sleeping on them again. The way they systemically dismantled Colorado State was exactly what they should have done. I expect similar results this next week.
Clemson Tigers Yay? If DJ Uiungalale (I hope I spelled that right, it's 12:13 AM) remains the starter for any length of time the rest of the season, fire Dabo. I'm not kidding, right now it's night and day between him and Cade. Yes this is reactionary. Yes I will drop Clemson if I see DJ under center next week unless he finally turns god mode. Or halfway decent.
Ohio State Buckeyes Color me unimpressed. Is Notre Dame good? Yes. That doesn't mean 21 points from a guy everyone was hyping up for the Heisman is what we should be championing. I'm going to say it: This Ohio State squad isn't going to the Natty. Not with play like this. With play like this, they're going to be beaten twice or more during the regular season. I'm going to highlight the Wisconsin and Michigan State games now. If Ohio State loses either of those games, stick a fork in their ambitions officially.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish That defense is either really damn good or Ohio State's offense is not what was promised. I hope it's the former for Notre Dame's sake, because when that offense gets healthy again, and that defense is beastly, Notre Dame would not only be in a position to sneak into the Playoff, but possibly win a game and make the title. If it's the latter, then Freeman's first season at the helm might be a bit bumpy. The good news is that it looks like Kelly was actually holding the Irish back.
Oklahoma Sooners Sure, it was UTEP. But the Sooners haven't missed a beat in the Venebles Era, and after the chaos of the preseason, winning is a welcome relief for this squad. Kent State should help with the feast, but it's clouding what this team really is. Are they capable of making the CFP? Could they lose to Kansas? It's still on the table right now, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
Texas A&M Aggies Appalachian State is no slouch and won't give up, so the Aggies need to be on red alert. Yeah, they steamrolled Sam Houston State, but Appalachian State is of course a different team, and one that likely will make A&M pay more for any mistakes Haynes King might make. And considering he threw two picks against an FCS School? Yeah, I think we might want to keep an eye on this game.
Arkansas Razorbacks Sam Pittman has worked miracles here. If it wasn't for Alabama, Arkansas would be my personal pick to win the SEC West, and right now it seems quite possible they could absolutely do it anyways. First they'll have to take on and defeat what I feel is a lowkey pretty good South Carolina squad that might make noise in the East themselves.
Michigan State Spartans Are they good? Serious question. They struggled early against Western Michigan, but put it away. But are they good? They're only as high as they are because I think that might have been rust, early season jitters, but they aren't that far removed from being bad either. We'll learn one way or another I suppose.
Baylor Bears I'm a little bearish on this team, and Albany doesn't change anything, but could make waves with the BYU game this week.
Pittsburgh Panthers Excellent comeback against West Virginia, rivalry games are always close.
Miami Hurricanes I'm still being gaslighted by their preseason hype, and destroying an FCS team was expected and doesn't move the barometer (pun intended).
Wake Forest Demon Deacons Solid win against VMI, will be interesting if they beat Vanderbilt, especially since we don't know how good the Commodores really are.
Florida Gators This team will beat Georgia this season, period.
Utah Utes What a disappointing loss, and with their schedule, they'll have to run the table if they even want to sniff the playoffs.
Iowa State Cyclones El Assico incoming, this team looks to prove they're the real deal this time. A playoff dark horse in my opinion.
Air Force Falcons This is the best Armed Forces team this season easily.
USC Trojans I still don't have much faith in this team, despite the offseason they had.
BYU Cougars BYU will prove if it's the real deal with a date with their future conference rivals in Baylor.
Kentucky Wildcats That first half was uuuuuuuuggggggglllllyyyyy.
Houston Cougars Y'all almost got Wil E Coyote'd, hopefully that was just first game jitters if y'all are aspiring to be this season's Cincinnati
Oklahoma State Cowboys A tale of two halves, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, this team needs to figure itself out fast before they get sunk.
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers This team is still good, and could be a dark horse contender for best G5 team.
Vanderbilt Commodores Little ol' Vandy is 2-0, and I genuinely don't know if they're overachieving or got exactly what the doctor ordered in the preseason. A win against Wake Forest would certainly make them a respectable matchup... could you imagine if they beat Georgia. Haha jk... unless?
