2018 Preseason Ohio State Buckeyes Rankings

User Rank Reason
mickeyquicknumbers 1 Ahh whatever. Statistically I think Ohio State on the whole graded out as the second best team last year behind Alabama. I know they lose a tremendous amount of talent, but they're closer to Alabama than they are the other 128 teams in the nation as far as being able to "next man up" with elite recruits. I expect Chase Young and Nick Bosa to edge Clemson for best pair of DE's in the nation (sorry Michigan). An offense that was overally pretty great should get even better this year with Webber/Dobbs complimenting a QB that I don't think will be a drop off from JT Barett and a WR group that will keep getting better. I have a few minor reservations about Alabama (and all other teams below them) but no reservations about Ohio State, so I keep them here for now.

Blooblod 3 Ohio State replaces talent as well as anyone in the country, and this year they don't even have a whole lot to replace. 17th year senior J.T. Barrett is finally gone, but as a fan of the team that got dismantled by Dwayne Haskins' arm, I'm all aboard the Dwayne Train (although I wouldn't mind seeing it run off the tracks). The d-line, headlined by Nick "I Can't Believe There's Another One" Bosa, is going to be an elite group. The secondary is home to one of my biggest picks for a potential breakout star: Jeffrey Okudah. The song remains the same for the Buckeyes and even in the most difficult division in football this team will almost assuredly win double digit games. My Buckeyes record prediction: 11-1. The B1G East is just too good to make it through unscathed. Penn State gets revenge on the Buckeyes in a potential Whiteout game at Beaver Stadium.

bwburke94 3 Because of my heavy computer reliance, I can't give a justification for every team. Ohio State is the third member of the top 3 in most computer polls, but beyond that it gets complicated.

DarkLegend64 3 Have to make a note for this one. At the point of making this, Urban's fate at OSU is still pending but I expect that he will be back and this ranking reflects that. There's still a lot to like about this team.

boxman151515 4 Ohio State might be the most talented team in the country. I know the Urban Meyer situation does nothing to help the team. I suspect he'll remain their head coach, but even if he's not, this is still a team to be reckoned with. Don't underestimate how much distractions can hurt a team, but this team will be a tough one to beat all year, regardless of who's coaching.

Extra_Excrement 5 Urban Meyer is, in my opinion, the second best head coach in the country behind Saban. With the investigation going on, I wouldn't blame other pollsters for ranking OSU lower. My prediction is that Urban keeps his job and that the assistant coaches are doing a swell job keeping the players in line so that this "distraction" doesn't interfere with practice. We'll likely know what happens by the time this poll is released,This ranking is all about the talent OSU has. OSU, UGA, and Alabama have been three of the best recruiting teams as of recent. Haskins might struggle a bit through the years but I think Ohio State's offense will be better than last season's. In fact, I think Ohio State will be a much better team than last year's squad. The problem is that nearly all the other B1G East teams will be improved too. If OSU can get through TCU, MSU, PSU, Michigan, and the Spoilermakers then they could be our new #1.

JeromesNiece 5 Urban Meyer is still the head coach as I am writing this, and he has built a perennial title contender in Columbus. The gauntlet in the Big Ten East this year and the lingering Zach Smith controversy knocks them to fifth but I would not be surprised at all to see them in the playoff.
Johnnycockseed 5
mjacksongt 5 They will drop if Meyer gets fired. They would've been 3rd, but the longer the investigation delays the more they drop. If Meyer does get fired, Tim Beck now controls their entire offense.
mynameisjona 5
Papalew32 5
PHubbs 5 If Ohio State can navigate all the current turmoil and get their potential turned into production, They have the best outside shot of knocking off the top 3 for a playoff victory. They are loaded with talent as always and have one of the most interesting out of conference lineups again this year to get in good experience before they hit their more difficult B1G play. I think that they'll be the second top 5 team to be on the outside looking in, though, because there is too much chaos and positional turnover for them to overcome.

Miami_da_U 6 They'd be higher on the list, but Personally I think Urban Meyer is at least suspended, if not fired. This has been a major distraction for the team, and I definitely think its going to have negative affects on the season. Plus they have an awesome schedule @TCU, @PSU, and @MSU! plus the home game vs Michigan and even Oregon State making it two P5 non con games, which is what I like to see. The Talent and schedule is there for tOSU to make the CFP. If Urban Meyer is cleared, they have a solid shot (though I don't think they go undefeated). If he's not, I doubt they do.

Fifth_Down 8 If OSU retains Meyer, they are my #2. If they lose Meyer I'd drop them out of my top ten. Coaching is what I factor in the most in my preseason rankings and that's a huge ? right now for OSU.

HUSKEROYAL 8 The cloud of the Urban Meyer investigation may cause uncertainty over the program, but there is plenty of talent to be solid even if Meyer receives the axe. This team should be competing for the title in the toughest division in college football, and should once again make a push for the CFP.
itsabearcannon 8 Low, I know, but this is until Urban's status is secure one way or the other. I think no small amount of tOSU's success is due to him, and without him I think the Buckeyes suffer.

mellolizard 8 This is my prediction if Meyer IS fired.  If he is there, I am moving them up to 2.

52hoova 9 Obviously talented. Putting them here for now because their coaching situation is up in the air (who are we kidding? They are going to bring Urban back, they don't give a shit)
AllHawkeyesGoToHell 9 I would have put them higher, but their coaching situation is in limbo now. The talent alone will keep them in the Top 10, but their ceiling is probably a NY6 Bowl

chrisb19 9 While Urban Meyer hasn't reached the stratospheric heights of Nick Saban, he's another guy that just seems to reload talent on the field and the sidelines every year. If they can weather the Zach Smith scandal and a September that features games against TCU and Penn State, they should have one of the easier back halves of the season.

woakley 10 Ohio State at 10? You must be crazy! Yeah maybe, but as of the time of this ranking Urban Meyer is still on administrative leave and im not going to underestimate the impact that could have on this team. They are absolutely more talented than many of the teams above, but until Urban gets resolved im staying conservative. Also may be hard to adjust when you lose a QB thats been starting there for the last 15 years in JT Barret
