HUSKEROYAL 1 It's a new year and what better way to start off this poll than with the defending national champions? UCF may have lost their head coach and dilf in Scott Frost, but many players return including QB Milton. This team may not go another year undefeated, but as defending champions there is nobody that I can say is definitively better than UCF.
MonkeyPunch 1 Only undefeated team of 2017.  They were 13-0 and earned preseason top marks because of it.

woakley 12 The G5 darlings of last year. Don't get me wrong, they may have lost as much talent as anyone of the top 15 teams and they lost their entire coaching staff. Even with that, I think they found a more than competent replacement at HC, and I cant overlook how loaded their offense still is. Question mark here is the defense and how they replace the players they lost.

bwburke94 13 I still consider UCF the real national champions, but don't let that distract you from Virginia basketball losing to UMBC.

xelphin 15 0-12 in 2015.6-7 in 2016.13-0 in 2017. Unofficial National Champs. If they keep their current trajectory, UCF is going to be champions of the damn Galaxy.

PHubbs 16 The best team in UCF history capped off last season with one of the more impressive bowl wins of the 2017 season and departure of their program building coach. It will be next to impossible for this UCF squad to match those highs, but they should still be a top 20 team that will be a tough outing for any opponent from any conference. Look to their week 4 matchup against FAU to decide if either of those teams have a shot at sneaking into the top 15 with the potential to end the season as the highest ranked team in Florida.

52hoova 19 Pros: returning some really good players from an undefeated season.    Cons: losing a really good coach from an undefeated season.

mickeyquicknumbers 19 An undefeated top-5ish type team that returns an elite QB with no major holes left by attrition (except *maybe* at DE) ranked 19th preseason? I hate myself for succumbing to this logic but simply put I don't like the fact that Frost and all 9 of his assistants are gone in 2018. Heupel made Missouri look good (after being fired from Oklahoma) but he's a complete unknown as a head coach and being nervous for his debut season is appropriate. I don't think anyone would argue with UCF being ranked in the 7-9th range preseason if the staff continuity had remained.

chrisb19 21 How much was last season a flash in the pan and how much was owed to Scott Frost, now the head coach at Nebraska? Only time will tell. UCF loses a lot of talent both on the field and on the sidelines, with the relatively unproven Josh Heupel (formerly OC at Mizzou) taking over. But it's really hard to leave a team that went 13-0 with a bowl win over Auburn out of the rankings entirely.

Hey_Its_Roomie 21 Why so low compared to Boise or the FAU? Consider it fear of uncertainty in the complete change in staff. Still got Milton, and an otherwise solid team, but I'm unknowledgeable of Hypuel to put any confidence in him untested.

Blooblod 22 There seems to be a lot of skepticism regarding the Citronauts and their ability to replicate a season similar to last year. I happen to be in the camp that believes they have the potential to be almost as good. The defense loses a lot, and mama came callin' for Scott Frost, but this is still a team with hopes of making the G5 NY6 bid. New HC Josh Heupel produced a prolific passing offense at Missouri last season, and UCF returns McKenzie Milton to help him replicate that success in Orlando. Defensive attrition could be a real concern though. Pat Jasinski and Trysten Hill will lead a front seven that strives to thrive in the middle of a youth movement. My Citronauts record prediction: 11-1. P6 jokes aside, the AAC is a tough conference and chances are UCF won't go undefeated in it again. I have them losing a road game to Memphis, but that could set up the AAC Championship as the perfect revenge game for UCF.
BlueFalcon89 22
Charlemagne42 22 Frost held this team together. Heupel doesn't do defense. UCF will lose some shootouts.

Extra_Excrement 23 UCF is another G5 team that had quite the turnaround. 0-12 in 2015 to undefeated in 2017. Sure, they'll miss Frost but I think the offense will still be alright with the return of Milton. If I were a UCF fan, I'd really be missing Shaquem Griffin. That guy was the epitome of the football spirit. Not only was he a beast but he seemed to be the whole team's source of inspiration. The AAC is arguably the most competitive G5 conference and dropping just one game to USF, Navy, or Memphis could take them out of not only the G5 Peach Bowl bid but also out of conference contention.

GenialGiant 24 UCF's undefeated season was certainly impressive, and I think they deserved more recognition than they received, but the loss of Scott Frost makes me dubious about a repeat performance.
jmac_21 24 UCF lost a lot from their amazing run last season, but I'm sure they picked up some valuable Spencerian along the way. They'll still be really good.
