2023 Week 2 Ohio State Buckeyes Rankings

Main Poll Voters

User Rank Reason
COLU_BUS 1 Ignore my flair, my computer likes OSU, OSU was 2 in my preseason, and beating an FBS team on the road puts them above Georgia, for whom a home win against an FCS won't move the needle at all.

IceColdDrPepper_Here 3 I think Ohio State will be fine, but the Indiana game certainly raised some eyebrows, especially around the lack of catches for Marvin Harrison, Jr. and Emeka Egbuka (a combined 5 catches for 34 yards and no TDs).

kamiller2020 3 So......not scoring a passing touchdown is concerning. The passing game just never got into sync and I honestly don't understand why. The offensive line could've been better, especially at the tackle position. Miyan Williams had a great game at RB, as did Cade Stover at TE. But offensively you wanted more. The defense played phenomenally though. Yes, Indiana isn't the highest-caliber offense. But the positives of today can be carried over to future games. Tackling was fantastic. On a Week 1 where so many teams struggled in open-field tackling and first-contact hits the Buckeyes excelled. I don't recall any whiffs in the open field and the very few broken tackles in this game there were two or three silver helmets to the football. Tackling carries no matter the opponent and if you can tackle like that all season this defense is going to keep itself in ball games. The secondary wasn't tested much at all, so we'll wait til Western Kentucky in order to pass any judgment on them. But I'm going to trust that Ohio State figures out the offense, while the defense looks like they've made real improvements as a unit.

RegionalBias 3 23-3 over a P5 on the road. The defense did their job and the offense showed sparks. Will reevaluate more critically after next week.

texas2089 5 Kyle McCord got the start for the Buckeyes and it was anything but inspiring as Ohio State limped to a 23-3 win, with Marvin Harrison Jr and Emeka Egbuka combining for only 5 catches for 34 yards and 0 TDs. There is entirely too much talent on this roster for them to not figure it out though. They better figure it out quickly as a tough road test against Notre Dame comes up in just 3 weeks. The one bright spot was the defense was absolutely stifling, holding Indiana to just 153 yards of offense.

bretticus33 6 Ohio State might have a QB problem. Kyle McCord didn't impress much. However, there's still a lot of talent all over the field for the Buckeyes and it's worth remembering CJ Stroud struggled in his first few games as Ohio State's starting QB.
BRNXB0MBERS 6
cornholesurfer 6 See above reasoning. The Buckeyes will always be talented, but performances like that against Indiana will see OSU’s stock continue to drop if the offense can’t figure it out.

ScaratheBear 5 The result: It was a somewhat ugly game for the Buckeyes, as they beat Indiana 23-3. The good news is that the defense looks excellent. They allowed only 8 first downs the entire game and held the Hoosiers to a whopping 153 yards of total offense. The bad news is that there may be significant concerns all over the offense. OL play was poor, Marvin Harrison Jr. was held to only 2 catches, and Kyle McCord looked overwhelmingly... bleh. It was a weird result for the Buckeyes, as the game was never really in question, but the offense could never get anything going. The reasoning: A poor result against Indiana isn't the end of the world, but for the talent advantage Ohio State has on Indiana you'd hope for a more dominant result. The game was 13-3 until late into the 3rd quarter and Ohio State allowed the Hoosiers to hang around for far, far too long. Dropping them two spots is fair, I think, as they have plenty of opportunities to get right and prove themselves in the coming weeks. Next up: The Penguins come to town, but Buckeyes (get it?) will be glued to a 9/23 date @Notre Dame. It will be a massive test for both teams, and a playoff impacting game.

throwaway_6786 6 Buckeyes drop a few spots because McCord didn't look too impressive against a bad Indiana team. The defense, however, looked better than I expected. Not enough data to drop tOSU any further, but that performance won't hold up against the meat of their schedule (lucky for them, they have time to figure it out).
