charmingcharles2896 Ballot for 2023 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 5, 2023, 3:07 p.m.

Overall Rationale: These rankings are based on my own perceptions of how these teams performed over the last week, and throughout the season as a whole. I give more credence to little things like discipline (not making stupid mistakes, staying composed, etc.), coaching (how a coach manages the game, personnel, etc.), and how a team ultimately wins. A team winning a shootout is fun, but a team dismantling its opponent is more impressive. Splashy plays don't hold much weight to me, because so many of them are things that need a large degree of chance to happen (i.e. Caleb Williams' dropped snap touchdown throw against San Jose State last weekend. Joe Milton's long touchdown passes are more impressive to me.)

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs Still number one until they give me a reason for them not to be.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan handled business and showed an improved passing attack, something to pay attention to going forward.
Florida State Seminoles Thoroughly handled LSU, won in impressive fashion.
Alabama Crimson Tide Handled business, won the game, enough said.
Ohio State Buckeyes Really concerned about play calling, offensive line play, and especially quarterback play. Kyle McCord looked hesitant and tentative. Defense is good, but I am not sure about their offense.
USC Trojans Handling their business, but their defense worries me.
Penn State Nittany Lions Impressive showing versus West Virginia
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Sam Hartman is doing very well as ND's quarterback. The team looks much better than last season now that Tommy Reese is no longer offensive coordinator.
Washington Huskies Michel Penix is the truth, impressive play from a potential heisman contender.
Oregon Ducks Beat up on a lesser team, but i'm not sure how they'll fare against more physical teams.
Tennessee Volunteers Joe Milton has finally become an actual quarterback, they haven't lost a step as an offense.
Texas Longhorns Texas is here until they beat Bama, if they do that, they'll be a top ten team.
LSU Tigers Lost in embarrassing fashion, but I think Brian Kelly is an okay coach and the team is talented.
Utah Utes Utah plays a physical brand of football and once they're healthy, they'll be a threat.
North Carolina Tar Heels UNC handled UofSC and if they keep winning, they'll make some noise this year.
Oregon State Beavers Plays a physical brand of football, if they beat some better conference opponents, they'll move up.
Kansas State Wildcats KState is KState.
Clemson Tigers Clemson looked poorly prepared and sloppy in the red zone, but they have some talented players on that team.
Duke Blue Devils Duke's defense is very good, impressive. If their offense, and especially their quarterback play improve, they'll be a serious contender in the ACC.
Oklahoma Sooners Sooners abused Arkansas State, but I don't know how impressive that actually was. I'm going to wait and see on the Sooners.
Maryland Terrapins The Terms took care of business, I'm very high on this team this season.
TCU Horned Frogs TCU looked poor on defense and lacked an identity on offense. They need to sort some things out, but i'm not ready to drop them completely.
Miami Hurricanes Miami looked good, but i'm not sure if this is simply September stuff or actual improvement.
Ole Miss Rebels Don't know much about this team, but they took care of business.
Colorado Buffaloes Coach Prime impressed me with his upset of TCU, but that Defense looks iffy. If Colorado keeps winning and shores up their defense, watch out.
