romulusjsp Ballot for 2023 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 5, 2023, 10:53 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Early season polls are dumb. I still consider most teams with a lot of hype to be unproven, especially teams that get ranked highly to start the year every year and consistently shit the bed. I do reference my previous ballot in constructing my new one.

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs (-) Not much to say about the top 4. They look like the teams they usually are.
Michigan Wolverines (-)
Alabama Crimson Tide (-)
Ohio State Buckeyes (-)
Florida State Seminoles (+3) Trying not to overreact too much to the big win (although notice that LSU, who I ranked 17th to start, is no longer in the poll, lol), but FSU looks like they can hang with anybody right now after dismantling the Tigers.
Penn State Nittany Lions (-1) The next few placements didn't reveal much about themselves last week, but have been displaced downward due to FSU moving up.
Tennessee Volunteers (-1)
Washington Huskies (-1)
Utah Utes (-) In stark contrast to my normal shameless homerism (which is why they are ranked so high to begin with), no change for the Utes despite the solid win on Thursday. To plagiarize a witticism from another r/CFB commenter, Thursday's game didn't show me whether the Utes are good, it just showed me that the Gators aren't.
USC Trojans (+1) I'm still not buying the Trojans hype (totally not biased guys I promise), but Ws are Ws.
Oregon State Beavers (+1) Beavs look legit.
Tulane Green Wave (+1) Everybody sleeping on the Wave
Kansas State Wildcats (+1) Southeast Missouri State ain't played nobody pawwwl
Notre Dame Fighting Irish (+1) What you've done is unpatriotic
Oregon Ducks (+3) Although they bullied Portland State for no reason, the Ducks are moving up due to the missteps of other teams rather than impressing me.
North Carolina Tar Heels (NR) I was hesitant to buy into the hype but they looked very good against a SCAR team that I have just outside of my Top 25 right now.
Fresno State Bulldogs (+4) Fresno is being slept on nationally
UCLA Bruins (+4) The Bruins didn't look particularly impressive this week but a win's a win and the option is weird
Duke Blue Devils (NR) Despite having a good season last year I didn't really have Duke on my radar, but what a hell of a way to prove it on Monday night. Trying not to overreact too much, but Clemson are not ranked on this ballot because they looked truly horrendous out there
Maryland Terrapins (+3) Terps remain ranked purely out of a sense of good vibes and a general feeling that they will have a good year.
Colorado Buffaloes (NR) I'm not going to totally fall for the hype train yet, but the Buffs look like they have at least returned to competence and I am happy for them. They squeaked out a win against a TCU team that was probably overrated (including by me), but they have some legit pieces and will no longer be a de facto bye week in the PAC.
Wisconsin Badgers (+2) Idk man I'm just putting the Badgers here because my buddy went to UW. Early season polls are dumb
Houston Cougars (NR) Sad meep meep noises
Ole Miss Rebels (NR) idk Joey Freshwater joke
Pittsburgh Panthers (NR) Idk their unis are nice. DROPPED OUT: Clemson, TCU, LSU, SCAR, UTSA, Purdue. Each of those teams are right outside my rankings and are probably a week or two away from being ranked again.
