Having to start a backup QB is a rough scenario for any team, but if there was any squad designed around making the transition as seamless as it could be, it'd be the Buckeyes. Or, at least I thought so, until this past weekend. Even with the advantage of a bye and the most talented receiver room in the nation, the rest of the squad's glaring issues (weaker trenches, poor playcalling, poor game management) came to light in glaringly obvious fashion in a rainy, muddy affair in Los Angeles. The typically solid defense crumbled under the assault of Maiava's arm (and some impressive agility from his receivers and tight ends) and the Buckeyes now face a near-must win out scenario to keep themselves alive in the B1G Title race. Fahey will have to take the next step and quickly, or more questions will be asked of Ryan Day by the Lunatic Fringe.

Comment: I'm not all that high on USC right now, so this loss really lowers my perception of Ohio State. Not enough to predict that they'll lose any further games this regular season though, but enough to drop them around the same level of Texas, which due to head to head results required me to rank them below Texas.

Ohio State i think is in big trouble without Sayin. They dont look like the same team without him. If i was just going on who I think would win matchups, I'd probably drop them quite a bit. Resume-wise i think they still look pretty good. Nice wins over Indiana (8-1) and Iowa (6-2). Lost to Texas and USC.

None of these rankings should be too contraversial this week except for this one, considering they just got dominated by USC, and I only have them at #19.

I won't mince words—the Buckeyes looked like a shell of themselves. However, I'm gonna give them some grace for being on the road, with a freshman QB in his first start, and in the rain. Also, I'm reticent to shoot USC up too much based on this one game when they have been so inconsistent all year.

The rest of the season will tell if this is the start of trends for OSU and USC, or if either team reverts to their old ways.

And that means tOSU goes... somewhere? It has to be below those 2 at LEAST but above Iowa since they beat Iowa.

this feels like an extreme drop but I HATE USC this year, they've looked dookie poopie butt ass more weeks than not, embarrassing but somewhat expected loss

I know Sayin is out but God damn. This normally astounding defense was carved up and OSU was never in the game. I mean, a screen pass that went 69 yards on the 2nd play of the game is just crazy work.

Losing to this USC team is bad, even if Luke Fahey is QB...
