Ballot Type: Human

Rank Team Reason
Georgia Bulldogs There were questions about Georgia and slow starts, but this looked like the Georgia of the last couple seasons with a dominating effort all over the place. The Bulldogs reclaim their place atop the poll.
Ohio State Buckeyes Similar to UGA, I think OSU is struggling with slower starts and inconsistency. The talent is there, and the defense is a top 5 unit in FBS, but the offense doesn’t look like it’ll be the explosive unit we saw last season.
Florida State Seminoles FSU seems like a team that is CFP worthy, but not a title contender. They have lapses and cold streaks in games that haven’t cost them yet. Their win over VT wasn’t as convincing as it should have been. Over Michigan for wins over LSU and Clemson.
Michigan Wolverines Michigan could be the best team in the country and may not need a B1G title to get to the CFP. This is a really fucking good team but their resume is and will be lacking.
Oklahoma Sooners All this talk about Texas being back and it was OU that was back. Oklahoma is now squarely in the lead for the Big 12 title and in a great spot for the CFP. The defense is great and the offense proved a lot of people wrong.
Penn State Nittany Lions PSU was on a bye to prepare for UMass
Washington Huskies Washington was on a bye but has a huge home game against Oregon coming up.
Oregon Ducks Oregon was on a bye but has a huge home game against Washington coming up.
Texas Longhorns Texas has as much talent as anyone in the country but just can’t put it all together. The defense got shredded all afternoon by the Sooners and the offense paid the price for their turnovers. Texas can still win the Big 12, but the CFP is an uphill battle now.
Alabama Crimson Tide Defense good. Citrus Bowl.
USC Trojans I don’t know how USC is 6-0 after they escaped against Arizona in 3OT, but they did and that’s the good news. However, the defense is still a disaster and now the schedule is going to get really difficult for USC. If they can win out, they’re a CFP team.
Louisville Cardinals Despite being #25 in the AP poll, everyone counted out Louisville against Notre Dame. Yet their defense shut down the Irish and they scored 30 themselves for one of this season’s most impressive wins.
Oregon State Beavers The duality of Oregon State football. DJU was electric against Cal, but their defense struggled to slow down Cal’s offense. The offensive showing bodes well against a good UCLA defense coming up, but they can’t let UCLA shred them too.
Ole Miss Rebels Lane Kiffin and Ole Miss don’t know what a comfortable victory is. They beat Arkansas by a score but it’s hard to fully trust this team when they play up or down to their opponent.
North Carolina Tar Heels This was arguably UNC’s best game this season. Their offense showed a lot of life and are getting their best WR back, and the defense stopped everything Syracuse tried to do.
Duke Blue Devils Duke moves up because of results around them but they were on bye.
Tennessee Volunteers Tennessee moves up because of results around them but they were on bye
Utah Utes Utah moves up because of results around them but they were on bye
UCLA Bruins UCLA rebounded very nicely from their loss to Utah with a good win over WSU. The Bruins defense is one of the most underrated units in the country. IDK if UCLA will be a PAC title contender but don’t rule out the damage they can do.
Washington State Cougars WSU fell to earth a bit but they did not look good against UCLA. Their offense was ineffective as Cam Ward’s Heisman campaign died, and the defense wasn’t as strong as they usually have been.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Ooof. ND drops another game to a ranked opponent and Marcus Freeman has to be feeling the heat now in South Bend. The Irish couldn’t run at all and their defense struggled a lot against Louisville. A CFP run is out of the question and the NY6 might be too.
Air Force Falcons Air Force was on a bye but now sees Wyoming coming to them in a huge MWC matchup.
Wyoming Cowboys Well how about this: welcome to the poll Wyoming! 5-1 and I don’t know if anyone thought they’d be here at any point this season. They’ve got wins over TT and Fresno, look strong defensively, are getting enough offensively, and a win against Air Force could have Wyoming in the lead for the NY6 spot.
LSU Tigers LSU’s defense is still ass. Jayden Daniels would be a Heisman contender with a better defense helping him out. Daniels IS LSU
Missouri Tigers Mizzou has to be feeling like shit. They jumped out to a big lead, had a good matchup against LSU’s secondary, and they completely blew it. Now they get a tough Kentucky team who just got obliterated.
