JetoGrov Ballot for 2023 Week 7

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Oct. 9, 2023, 4:47 p.m.

Overall Rationale: My best attempt at a resume-based poll. Poll is not predictive in anyway, merely ranking teams based on who I feel has achieved the most to this point in the season. Only 14 unbeatens remain!!!! 1st Team Out: Maryland (sorry Terps, no great win to point to yet)

Rank Team Reason
1 Oklahoma Sooners Ranking Oklahoma number 1 after their thrilling Red River win may seem like recency bias (and maybe it is), but I feel that a win over Texas is the best win that any undefeated team has at this point in the season. Had Texas as my number 1 team last week, and a la boxing, by defeating them the sooners have moved into my #1 spot.
2 Florida State Seminoles While the rest of the country/polls slowly drop FSU down their ranks, I persist that wins over LSU and @Clemson are two of the best wins any team has. Games with Duke and Miami (lol lololololololol) are the only two remaining that will *seemingly* give the Noles trouble in the regular season, and are the only two that will boost this team's resume. I don't see FSU climbing any higher than #2 for the rest of the year, but they shouldn't fall out of the Top 5 either.
3 Ohio State Buckeyes Still giving the Bucks credit for being the first team to knockoff ND (in a game that was the Irish's super bowl, and in South Bend) but, like last season, that win is starting to age poorly. Make of the MD result what you will. Do you say "oh, MD is actually quite good and that was impressive of OSU to overcome them." or "What is OSU doing getting handled by MD for a half?"? I don't know, they're not firing on all the OSU cylinders, but they're kind of gritty and I kind of dig it (speaking with my OSU fan hat now). I'm a late-life buckeye fan convert, so I don't have quite the expectations or frustrations that a lot of the lifers seem to have with this squad....some of y'all have been watching 10-win football seasons for your entire life and it really shows. The defense (namely, the secondary) is solid (dare I say elite) and we'll find out all we need to against PSU and Michigan...though overlook the trip to West Lafayette at your own peril *maniacal laughter*
