GenialGiant 4 I really doubt many people read these, but I think the Committee's problems stem from them just not being brave enough to put Alabama in over Texas. "But Texas beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa!" That's correct, and that is why Texas is even in the conversation for a playoff spot. Each team has six wins against FBS teams with winning records, but, as a whole, I'd pretty comfortably put Alabama's wins over Texas's, and tools like FPI seem to do the same.

GatorBolt 5 Nick Saban has done it again. What else can I say? And while I refuse to rank Bama in the Top 4, Alabama is why I felt playoff expansion was always necessary. While they don't deserve it in this format, the fact Alabama won't be playing for a title after this weekend is a travesty and why I'm glad we're finally moving in the 21st century in deciding a champion in this sport starting next year.

jthomas694 5 Is Alabama a different team than they were in September? The win over Georgia suggests that they might be, almost losing to an Auburn team who got out-gained by 200 yards by New Mexico State the week prior suggests they might not be. They didn't look particularly good when they had to play their third string QB and they also just showed that who's favored on a neutral field means nothing, as Georgia was a 6 point favorite. This is a very good defense and the run offense came together over the course of the season. They may win the whole thing, but that does not change the fact that they should not be in the CFP.

nw____ 5 Saban is right: this team has gotten better as the season has gone on. That doesn't make up for the H2H loss against Texas, though. If they'd beaten Texas, they'd be in. Unfortunately, if they'd played The Citadel that week instead of Texas, I think they'd also be in, so they're kind of the anti-Texas: a perfect case of why teams should *not* schedule tough OOC games. I hope teams continue to do so, though.

YellowSkarmory 5 Alabama may have the strongest wins of these three – it's close between them and Texas, and FSU definitely has weaker wins (but no loss). I just can't put them ahead of either FSU or Texas due to the former being undefeated and the latter winning at Alabama.

CallingUagoatUgoat 2 57.5 pts. I will unapologetically defend Alabama being ranked ahead of Texas. I choose not to ignore other important metrics to focus solely on record and head-to-head. Alabama has two SP+ T-10 wins (Texas has 1). Alabama has three SP+ T-25 wins (Texas has 1). Alabama has the better "best win", #2 Georgia vs. #7 Alabama, according to SP+. Alabama has the better loss, #6 Texas vs #13 Oklahoma, according to SP+. Alabama SOS - 5, Texas SOS - 13. As far as I can see, Texas has the advantage in SOR (5 vs 6) and head-to-head. My model reflects this (Alabama has a 12-point lead over Texas after conference championship games).

_TGT7 4 People will criticize this choice, and I get it, but I believe from a pure resume standpoint, Alabama is superior to Texas, Alabama has wins against Georgia, Ole Miss, and LSU, who are all top 15 teams, has a win against Tennessee who I believe is extremely overrated but certainly isn’t a bad team by any stretch, and has wins over stronger than their record Kentucky and Texas A&M, the Auburn game is a black eye on Alabama’s resume, but Texas also nearly lost against Kansas State. Texas only true big win in my opinion is the Alabama win, and they have wins over decent Kansas, KSU, and Oklahoma State teams, but no other Top 15 wins, and they lost to a 2 loss Oklahoma team. I won’t be mad if Texas is ranked ahead of Alabama, and I’m certainly biased, but I don’t think Texas wins if Alabama and Texas play again.

chillmagic420 4 Eye test and SEC champ gets in. FSU played themselves out of it. Even against FL with the #2 QB they looked bad.
CriterionCrypt 4 Alabama had the best win in championship week and are looking like a top four team right now. If the job of the playoff committee is to put the four most deserving teams in the playoff, FSU would be in this slot. But in my poll, I am putting the four best teams in. And right now, that includes Alabama.
daredassdude 4 5 wins over Top 25 opps. 2 wins over Top 11 opps. Transitive win over Georgia.

hurricaneatx 4 (12-1) - With how great the parity at the top has been this year, there's bound to be very good teams being left out. In my playoff selection, Alabama would be the first team out, and that's no slight against the Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide got off to a very rocky start against Texas and South Florida (the latter of which was probably the worse game), but followed that up with yet another Saban masterclass, claiming the SEC title with a win over Georgia despite all the changing-of-the-guard talk. The combination of team strength and strong strength of schedule results in me ranking Alabama ahead of Florida State, but I'd pick Florida State to be in a playoff. Quality wins: Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU, Georgia
