kamiller2020 9 Admittedly, I wanted to put Texas at #3 because I'm fully in the "Texas is back" camp this year. And that starts with Quinn Ewers, who while not perfect showed enough flashes to make me believe that there's a lot of good football ahead of him. Losing Bijan is massive along with Roschon Johnson, but Texas is going to have an arsenal of guys to imploy an RBBC until somebody emerges out of that room. The WR room is loaded with Xavier Worthy returning, Isiah Neyor coming back from an injury, Jordan Whittington, and transfer AD Mitchell from Georgia. Plus first team Big 12 TE in Ja'Tavyion Sanders gives the Longhorns no excuse to not have an elite passing game. Plus every single offensive line starter returns from a very impressive unit last year, headlined by 2025 1st-round pick Kelvin Banks Jr. The defense is solid. 3 huge pieces of last year's defensive line return which should be in the top of the Big 12 in disruption once again, along with a solid LB group. Jalen Catalon could be a massive pickup if he returns to 2021 form but the secondary needs to show a bit more in order to restore faith. Texas sneakily had a pretty good year on the defense and could be a top-25 unit this season if things break right. At their peak this team can win the national title, but they have to perform better in close games if they want to truly contend for anything. You're not going to blow out everybody, especially with their schedule, and 2-5 in one-score games is not going to cut it.

bretticus33 13 It’s annual tradition to say Texas is back in August, but this time feels a little different. This feels like the most complete team Texas has fielded in years and it’s one with a lot of returning talent and production. QB Quinn Ewers showed his talent in spurts last season but injury battles made it tough for that to be consistent. Replacing Bijan Robinson won’t be easy but it is doable. The biggest question for Texas is if they can finally break through and be the top team they’re supposed to be. Steve Sarkisian has never been able to break through as a HC and Texas has made it a habit to be wildly inconsistent with their performances over the years. In their last season in the Big 12, Texas is one of the favorites for the conference title.

Corgi_Koala 16 Ewers is a stud, and this is Texas' last chance to contend for a national title without having to grind through an SEC schedule. But I am still a firm believer that Sark is a bad coach and he's going to drop at least 2 he shouldn't and 1 he should (Bama). Texas is not back and they are going to disappoint.

fredmerc111 17 They’re baaaaack. Maybe. It falls on the shoulders of Quinn Ewers. They have the talent everywhere, but they need consistent play out of a QB who lacked it last year.
NyquillusDillwad20 17 If we get the pre-injury Quinn Ewers we saw against Bama last year, then this could finally be the year Texas is back.
peachios 17 might deserve higher, but also they always drop so I'm putting that in here.

crownebeach 21 It's trendy to make fun of ranking Texas, but they're going to be a top-25 team. They just are. What's funny is that they're going to underperform their team talent by about 10-20 spots no matter what they do or who coaches them, but don't get carried away -- they're not bad, they're just not the Texas of old.
jjjoebox 21
oghawks18 21 Sark hasn’t proved he can win more than 9 games in a year yet. For all the hype and reasons for optimism, there are still a lot of “if’s” and question marks. Until proven otherwise, I’m going to assume 8-4.

JetoGrov 2 As will become very apparent on these rankings: if there is hype, then IM BUYING IT. Has Sark ever done anything as a head coach? Is Texas ever actually back? The talent is there, I think the QB is there, I think the Horns beat Bama...I think the Horns beat UGA in the playoffs (welcome to the SEC), and come up just short in the title game.

ScaratheBear 12 Texas must, at some point, be back. And if there was a year to do it, this is it. Quinn Ewers leads a fearsome looking offense spearheaded by overwhelmingly talented OL and receiving groups, and though do everything star Bijan Robinson is gone, the RB room doesn't look shabby either. The defense, though young, is monumentally talented and could absolutely stand with any team in the country. Pair that with a new and arguably down Big 12, and you've got a recipe for the Horns to come alive in their last year of Big 12 membership. And early season trip to Alabama will tell what the Longhorns expectations should be, but even a loss there shouldn't put dampers on Big 12 title hopes.

TinderForMidgets 16 If Quinn Ewers has improved, you can certainly expect Texas to make some noise. Ewers has a big arm but needs to improve on his deep passes. The defense needs to be more clutch on third and fourth downs. However, Texas has a ton of talent and can at least be an above average P5 team.

throwaway_6786 18 I'm not ready to shoot this team up to #11 the way that the AP did. They went 8-5 last year, and while they did deal with injuries and some terrible late-game luck, they won't have their Doak Walker RB Bijan Robinson anymore and RBs like him don't grow on trees. I think that Steve Sarkisian will have this team ready and rearing to go and I've heard lots of good things about Quinn Ewers this offseason, but until I see it on the field, I'm not going to buy in too much.

spmartin1993 22
FourteenClocks 23 Is there any other team with more pressure than Texas having to go into Bryant-Denny and doing what they Quoldinn't last year? (Maybe their guy won't get late-hit this time.) And--God forbid--being *back*? Ranking this UT seems routine, no matter what their record reflects, but in 2022 this team was some bad luck away from a far more attractive W-L look. But Seven-Win Sark did get to vanquish that title--he won eight games, thank you very much. Hyping Texas has felt like a hopeless effort for some time, but they have the pieces. Don't they always, though?
