TanzaniaMagic 2 Baker Mayfield threw for an incredible 19/20, 329 yards and 3 TDs before sitting out for the second half. Lincoln Riley era is off to a good start.

Bill3ffinMurray 3 It's easier to shine against UTEP than other opponents (e.g., Alabama), but Oklahoma was ultra efficient against the Miners. A loss by the Noles means the Sooners occupy the 3rd spot on the poll, setting up another intriguing early season matchup against Ohio State on Saturday.
BoboIsDead 3 (-) Despite the new coach, I still like the look of this team.
BunnySelfDestruct 3 Want to be a preseason favorite and still be considered a favorite a week later? Crush your week one opponent.

Cobainism 3 No quips and qualms about the OU's performance vs. Eddie Guerrero's hometown college last week. QB Baker Mayfield continues to commandeer one of the best offenses in the country. #2 vs #3 in Columbus next week, it will be an amazing game. Boomer Sooner!

stripes361 3 I picked Oklahoma #3 in the preseason because of their elite QB play and Week One did nothing to dispel that notion. Kyler Murray went 10/11 for 149 yards and 1 TD and didn't even have the best QBR, completion percentage, or yards/attempt on his team. Those honors go to my Heisman favorite, Baker Mayfield, who played a flawless first half. Any ranked team should be expected to put up great numbers against UTEP, so the Sooners were not going to move into the Top 2 unless they broke Georgia Tech's single-game scoring record; however, they are a very solid #3 for right now. And they'll have their chance to move to the top when they visit Columbus on Saturday.

jmac_21 4 OU took care of business at home. Besides the first drive the defense looked fairly solid, obviously the big test is this weekend @ Ohio State.
Jpkun 4 Looked great under their new head coach. Mayfield only missed one pass. Much like Clemson, their opponent was nowhere near their level. It was a convincing game. Next week's game at Columbus may be critical for deciding whether the B1G or the Big 12 is left out--like it did last year.

Nathanael-Greene 4 Lincoln Riley did pretty good in his first game as head coach of the Sooners, as Oklahoma handled Texas-El Paso. OU is the best team in the Big 12 for the moment, but challenges later in the season will prove whether or not they can hold onto their spot in the Top 4.

Arsenal7X 5 Baker Mayfield went 19/20 with the one incompletion coming on a questionable no-PI call when Mayfield chucked it deep late in the second quarter. He's going to need all of that accuracy and efficiency on Saturday as the Sooners travel to Columbus to take on Ohio State. Also side note: I was at the UTEP game and Norman is a cool place to watch a football game.

BosskOnASegway 5 They rose as teams above them fell, their performance was exactly as expected against lower opponents.   As with Penn State, the test comes next week,  I will be looking for Oklahoma to exploit OSU's secondary and move the ball against a defense that appeared to have some significant holes in the secondary.

kamikazeguy 5 OU looked Great against UTEP (W 56-7), showing QB depth as well.  Baker went 19-20 on 329 yards, and Kyler Murray went 10-11 to boot.  The true freshman MLB Kenneth Murray needs to work on his run fits, though, or else JK Dobbins will be taking his lunch money come Saturday.

WhiteBaseCoat 9 Baker Mayfield is great, and Oklahoma has solid talent and experience. However, I'm worried about their defense, I'm not sure how well they'll replace Mixon and Perine, and I don't know what to expect from Lincoln Riley. This ends the most lazy, cold-take, Big 12 analysis I could possibly have written about OU.
beerslingerjay 10 Doesn't look like Baker Mayfield really misses DeDe Westbrook at all. Pretty much every QB that went into the game for OU looked like Heisman finalists. They'll have to quickly remove the charred remains of UTEP from their boots before taking on OSU this weekend.
Extra_Excrement 10 Baker Mayfield deserves all the hype he gets but I'm not too sold on the team as a whole yet. Ohio State's vaunted "basic defense" gave the Sooners fits last year. With Mixon, Westbrook, and Perine gone we'll see if Riley can get the offense prepared for a huge week two matchup. The Buckeyes showed weakness in their secondary so I expect Mayfield to try to expose that.

T-Thugs 17 Dominant in a win over a conference USA opponent. A win over Ohio State next week would jump the Sooners up to the top 2.
