beerslingerjay 3 Total annihilation of Akron told us what we already knew: Barkley is a machine, and McSorley continues to produce. I expect Penn State to be undefeated going into their back-to-back meetings of Michigan and Ohio State. These two weeks later down the line could shape the CFB Playoff picture.

Extra_Excrement 3 Penn State had one of the more dominant games of week one. Shutting out an FBS opponent is impressive no matter it is. I'm not sure if Penn State can pull off consecutive victories over OSU but if anyone can stop the Buckeyes short of the playoffs it's Penn State.

Arsenal7X 4 This offense is just nuts. I know Akron isn't the best competition but they took care of business and then some. They have the best offensive player in the country in Barkley and a whole host of weapons around him. Next week, they host Pitt who just gave up 400+ yards through the air against an FCS team (albeit a very good one) so things could get ugly in Happy Valley.

Bill3ffinMurray 4 Can you believe that it was just less than a season ago that James Franklin was on the chopping block? The Nittany Lions have done nothing but win since then, and in their annual matchup against Akron, Penn State - like Oklahoma - was ultra efficient en route to a 52-0 over the Zips. Penn State looks the part of a legit contender this year, but their schedule is dark and full of terrors.

BoboIsDead 4 (+3) They played a vastly overmatched opponent, but looked good all over the field.  They're filled with talent and ready to face anybody.
BosskOnASegway 4 They rose as teams above them fell, their performance was exactly as expected against lower opponents.  The first test is next week, I expect a commanding victory over Pitt or Penn State will be corrected downward.

Cobainism 4 No quips and qualms about PSU's performance vs. LeBron's hometown college last week. OC Joe Morehead and RB Saquon Barkley continue to work their magic. The Nittany Lions are the real deal, can't wait for the whiteout game!

kamikazeguy 4 Penn State showed Akron (and the rest of College Football) that they were here to stay. Dominating Akron in all facets of the game (including special teams), Penn State will most likely come out even hotter next week, looking to lay some lumber on a certain team with a propensity for coprophagia.  Barkley will be in New York this year.
Khavanon 4 (+1) 52-0 over Akron.

WhiteBaseCoat 4 I was recently watching a condensed version of the Rose Bowl from last year, and I have two observations. There's a moment where the Nittany Lions' defensive line completely floods USC's pocket in the red zone, and I swear that Sam Darnold starts trying to crawl his way out of the throng in an attempt to throw the ball like he's Jon Snow struggling for air in the Battle of the Bastards. The other thing I took away is that every time Trace McSorley gets the chance to set up in the pocket for a deep ball, all I can think of is in the Dark Knight Rises when Batman shows back up and that one grizzled veteran officer tells the uppity rookie that he's in for a show tonight. (I realize that scene is originally from The Dark Knight Returns, but I don't really like that comic and this poll is about my controversial and misguided opinions on college football, not comic books, thank you very much). Ball gets thrown, ball gets caught, you can't explain that. This pretty much summarizes my thoughts on Penn State football.

Jpkun 5 Penn State looked to have some trouble in the beginning of the game, being a bit sluggish, but definitely picked up speed and rhythm as the game went on. Flawless game for them, recording a dominant shut out. It will be interesting to see how their fair against Pitt, a rival that that cost them a berth in the playoff last year.

Nathanael-Greene 5 Penn State trounced Akron on Saturday, with Saquon Barkley and Trace McSorley performing well on offense while the Defense left Akron with zip on the scoreboard. They move up from #8 to 5 in my poll.

stripes361 6 Penn State may have jumped Clemson if the Tigers had struggled against Kent State. The Lions could have finished with both 300 passing yards and 300 rushing yards if they had not taken their foot off the gas. Saquon Barkley averaged a cool 12.3 yards per carry and preseason all-American tight end Mike Gesicki hauled in his first two TD catches of the year. After attending this game in person, I was impressed with Trace McSorley's accuracy, poise, and command of the offense. I'm high on him for right now, assuming that he can keep his performance up against Big Ten defenses. A repeat conference championship is not entirely out of the question.

corundum9 10 Barkley and McSorley are a lethal tandem in the backfield. I'm a little weary about their defense. Not much to learn from a blowout win against Akron, but PSU will have plenty of opportunities to move up from here as the season unfolds.
