Khavanon Ballot for 2017 Week 2

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 5, 2017, 9:50 p.m.

Overall Rationale: Human poll until week five or six.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide (0) 24-7 over previous #3 FSU. Bama's always beating good teams and yet they rarely ever rise in the rankings. If only they could get some respect. Some season ending injuries on the defensive side are going to hurt, but something tells me they have the talent to make up for it.
Ohio State Buckeyes (0) 49-21 over conference opponent Indiana. Not a great start, but they had a better opponent than the teams that follow them, and it was the first game.
Oklahoma Sooners (+1) 56-7 over UTEP.
Penn State Nittany Lions (+1) 52-0 over Akron.
Florida State Seminoles (-2) They lost 24-7 to Alabama. The previous team to lose to Alabama was Washington in the CFP, and the score was also 24-7. The Huskies finished #4 in the polls, so I feel like #5 is reasonable. Some folks might be ranking them lower based on their losing Francois, but I watched a team win the national championship with a 3rd-string quarterback (Ohio State), so I'm going to wait and see just how this affects them. It's not like FSU isn't enough of a blue blood that it might have some reserve talent.
Clemson Tigers (+2) 56-3 over Kent. Not a promotion as much as other teams suffered a drop.
Stanford Cardinal (+2) 62-7 over Rice. Same reason as Clemson.
USC Trojans (-2) 49-31 over WMU. Last year USC had a slow start and ended up #3. Is this another slow start or is Western Michigan still a good team?
Michigan Wolverines (+5) 33-17 over previous #12 Florida. Winners of the second most important game of the week.
Washington Huskies (-3) 30-14 over Rutgers. It wasn't garbage time when Rutgers scored their last TD. The Huskies should expect to play better than this.
Wisconsin Badgers (-1) 59-10 over Utah State. Shuffled down because of Michigan.
Oklahoma State Cowboys (-1) 59-24 over Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane finished with 10 wins last season. Also dropped one because of Michigan.
LSU Tigers (0) 27-0 over BYU. The Cougars haven't had a losing season in 13 years, so this might be an impressive win for the Tigers.
Auburn Tigers (+1) 41-7 over Georgia Southern.
Georgia Bulldogs (+1) 31-10 over Appalachian State. The Mountaineers have won 10+ games the last two seasons.
Virginia Tech Hokies (+3) 31-24 over West Virginia. Some folks had WVU ranked. I had them rated very low. We'll see who's right in the long run, but the teams ahead of the Hokies didn't do so well, so they get a bump by default.
Colorado Buffaloes (+3) 17-3 over CSU, who put up 58 on a P5 team the previous week.
Tennessee Volunteers (+5) Thrilling 42-41 double overtime win over previously ranked #21 Georgia Tech.
Florida Gators (-7) Lost 33-17 to previously ranked #14 Michigan in the Swamp. Their offense has yet to score a TD.
Louisville Cardinals (-3) 35-28 over renowned Big Ten "powerhouse" Purdue. Actually, it seems like all of the B1G's lower echelon is making their presence known around the country. No excuse for the Cardinals, though.
USF Bulls (-3) 42-22 over SJSU and 31-17 over middle of the road FCS school Stony Brook. Mediocre start for the Bulls.
Kentucky Wildcats (0) 24-17 over Southern Miss. Not a great win. The Wildcats brought back most of their starters on both sides of the ball and recruited well following a winning season. Let's see if any of that matters this year.
Miami Hurricanes (+1) 41-13 win over Bethune-Cookman.
Kansas State Wildcats (+1) 55-19 win over Central Arkansas.
Washington State Cougars (NEW) 31-0 over Montana.
