T-Thugs 3 Got a win over ranked West Virginia to start the year.
hokies220 4 I'm probably going to get hammered for homerism for this, but I think the win over WVU was a better win than Washington/Cal/Clemson had. My poll is very reactionary early on and this will change as VT plays an FCS team in week 2.

GilBrandt 6 Win over a solid Big12 matchup and instate rivalry which can always be interesting. Look forward to WV finding their way back into the rankings

BunnySelfDestruct 8 Probably the second strongest week one victory. Sure they didn't dominate WVU, but they won and a quality win will certainly run you up the ladder this early in the year.

corundum9 14 Big bump for beating Mountain Jesus and company. West Virginia is a talented squad. This is the third most impressive win from week 1. Josh Jackson had a more than adequate game and Bud Foster's defensive is as stingy as ever.

WhiteBaseCoat 14 I've been worried about Virginia Tech's offense, but they seem to have found a good quarterback with the potential to be great one day, and that day could be coming this season. Their defense should be extremely good, and Justin Fuente is in year 2, which means that he could be looking at a lot of improvement. I'm not quite on the Hokie Hype Train yet, but I'm staring forlornly at it from the station as it slowly but surely picks up speed, weighing if I should try to leap on my noble steed and catch up with the caboose like the ending to a romantic Western. Or, like, The Polar Express.

CarbonCamaroZL1 15 Looked very strong offensively. Handled West Virginia in a tight, close game. Defense was very good the first half, got tired the second half (so did WVU).

Extra_Excrement 15 Jackson was impressive in a big win over the Mountaineers. Either Tom Brady has extremely soothing words or Jackson is really as good as he looks. The offense still seems to be efficient even with the loss of Evans, Ford, and Hodges. I expected nothing less from Fuente. However, I would like to see some more protection for the QB. That and better pass-rushing. It seemed like Grier got almost no pressure after the first quarter.
Hummer77x 15
Nathanael-Greene 15 A solid showing by Josh Jackson the this Hokies team leaps frog them up from #20 in my poll, as their offense performed well and the defense was spectacular against West Virginia, so they may very well have a strong bid for the ACC Championship this year.

Khavanon 16 (+3) 31-24 over West Virginia. Some folks had WVU ranked. I had them rated very low. We'll see who's right in the long run, but the teams ahead of the Hokies didn't do so well, so they get a bump by default.

Arsenal7X 17 Probably played in the best game in the weekend if it weren't for the other game in the exact same time slot on Sunday. Josh Jackson looks like the real deal and the defense looked good enough against a good West Virginia offense.
BamaPride95 17
beerslingerjay 17 Justin Fuente continues to look like an amazing hire for Va Tech. Despite giving up a ton of yards to a re-vamped WVU offense, Tech was able to pull it out in the end. If Josh Jackson can continue to look like he did Week 1, Tech will make some noise in the ACC.

BosskOnASegway 17 Exciting game, solid play, a few more big plays given up than I would like to have seen but Fuente seems to have VT running like a well oiled machine.  I am expecting an ACC championship and a play off berth in the next few years, but I don't think this is the year.  Still too many small deficiencies.
captain_sasquatch 17
Cobainism 17 The Hokies jump up on the polls as they beat a ranked rival West Virginia on Sunday night. Overshadowed by UCLA QB Josh Rosen's epic comeback vs Texas A&M, VT also had an impressive performance in their nail-biting victory. QB Josh Jackson, the first freshman QB to start a season opener for the Gobblers since Mike Vick in 1999, had a nice day both running and throwing the football. I can't wait to see him develop throughout the season under HC Justin Fuente. Bonus points for no turnovers!

Ticklebump 17 So I'm writing this before the game. The Hokies looked great, led by a young Josh Jackson, thumping the Neers 35-14. Justin Fuente also dropped the people's elbow on Dana and it was majestic.

Bill3ffinMurray 20 One of the better wins, and one of the better games of Week 1 saw the Hokies take care of the Mountaineers, 31-24. Justin Fuente has turned Virginia Tech back into an ACC contender.

Ghost_of_Dude 20 A great win against a borderline top 25 team gives them their introduction to the top 25.
Harry_B_C_Dresden 20
mickeyquicknumbers 20 Nice bump here, because it looks like this offense hasn't missed a beat despite the key player turnover.
qacha 20
stripes361 20 Josh Jackson was everything I thought he would be. Namely, he struggled out of the gates only to get better as the night progressed and showed a high level of aptitude both running and throwing the ball. The Hokies may have made a bigger jump in my rankings if my opinion of WVU was higher. The defense did give up 592 yards of offense so Bud Foster has his work cut out for him.
