Extra_Excrement 5 USC's performance against Western Michigan was less than stellar but they're still frontrunners for the Pac-12. A lot of the hype for Darnold fizzled out but I have confidence that he'll bounce back.

HarbingerOfFun 5 Hard to be on board the Darnold train after the WMU game, but they did win

jmac_21 5 USC struggled just a bit at home with a pesky Western Michigan team. They showed some good flashes and I expect them to be much better moving forward. They have a big test this week with Stanford.

WhiteBaseCoat 5 I do have to admit that I'm docking USC because of their Western Michigan performance. I get that week 1 can be weird, and they did blow up at the end, but that's still a concerning result for such a talented and relatively experienced team. I just don't know how much I trust Clay Helton right now, and I'm willing to hold off putting them in my playoff until I see more out of them (read: until they do or don't beat Stanford).

beerslingerjay 6 A Corey Davis-less WMU gave them a run for their money until USC was finally able to pull away at the end of the game. Could The Darnold be showing some chinks in the armor? Stanford sure as hell will find out this Saturday.
Bill3ffinMurray 6 49-31 against Western Michigan might have been closer than most Trojan fans were expecting on Saturday, and Sam Darnold didn't turn in his best performance. But the Trojans rallied and pulled away from the resilient Broncos at the end and losses by other teams ahead of them means that USC can only move up.
bluegrassborn 6
BoboIsDead 6 (-) Not much to say other than they have one of the best rosters in the country and soundly beat an opponent they were expected to beat.
BosskOnASegway 6 Western Michigan lost much and more last season, yet USC struggled.  I had doubts about the hype behind USC and the Darnold.  These doubts were not abated by the uninspired performance, but neither were these doubts full substantiated.

Cobainism 6 The Trojans ultimately won their game vs. the Fleckless Broncos, but it wasn't pretty. It's hard to win a national championship if the defense gives up that many yards to a MAC team, and if the wide receivers drop that many passes. QB Sam Darnold and company needs to rebound quickly if they want to win vs Stanford next week.

doormatt26 6 I had trouble sorting out USC, PSU, and UW. We had three distinct scenarios.PSU - won at home in dominating fashion against a not-good G5 team.UW - won on the road in shaky fashion against a not-good but P5 team.USC - won at home in shaky fashion against a good G5 team.I opted to reward resume before the look of things - thus USC>UW>PSU. One way or another won't have to worry about this next week with Stanford coming to LA.

kamikazeguy 6 Looked positively lackluster against Western Michigan, with the exception of Darnold and Ronald Jones. Stanford will run all over them if they cant fix their run defense. Hopefully they can bounce back week 3!

lebaronslebaron 6 Really struggled with WMU. Gonna need a bit more than that, cant go into the 4th tied with a G5.

Arsenal7X 8 Some questions in the front seven popped up against a good Western Michigan team. Normally that wouldn't be that much of an issue this early in the season but the Trojans host Stanford next week. Ronald Jones and Darnold looked solid and I'm not too worried about this team going forward. They could take a lump or two against the Cardinal but they're stil the odds-on favorite to win the South.
coreyfra 8
corundum9 8 I sincerely believe that USC will have a challenging time replacing Adoree' Jackson and Juju Smith-Schuster. Not ready to buy into the Darnold hype. I think Stanford beats them this weekend, but either way it will be a solidifying litmus test for both teams potential going forward.
deadtofall12 8
JeromesNiece 8 LW: 7; performed slightly below expectations
Khavanon 8 (-2) 49-31 over WMU. Last year USC had a slow start and ended up #3. Is this another slow start or is Western Michigan still a good team?

TanzaniaMagic 8 WMU kept it close against the Trojans until nearly halfway through the 4th quarter. Darnold was probably better than his stats imply, but the Trojan running backs were the real stars during their game against WMU. There are some concerns over their rushing defense. On a side note, Jake Olsen long snapping was awesome and will likely be a highlight for this season.

calidoc 9 I had them at #4 last week, i've dropped them to #10 because of the terrible first half performance. Though WMU is a good team, USC should have been way more comfortable. My model actually has them tied at #1, but I really don't feel comfortable with that.

stripes361 9 USC struggled at times against a Broncos squad which should remain a contender in the MAC despite the departure of heralded head coach PJ Fleck, as well as offensive stalwarts Zach Terrell and Corey Davis. They rallied admirably enough to avoid a drop in the polls but not quite enough to jump Louisville. I'm still somewhat skeptical of all the USC hype but they will have every opportunity to prove me wrong this Saturday against Stanford.

CarbonCamaroZL1 10 Granted, Western Michigan came off of a 13-1 season, USC did not look very good. They still played a MAC team and it was a very close game the whole way through. USC have a lot to improve on before cracking back down into a playoff position.

Aeschylus_ 11 Western Michigan may be an excellent MAC team, but they're still a MAC team and USC is USC. Has the opportunity to jump all the way to #2 if it wins this weekend though.

Jpkun 11 USC played a disappointingly close game with Western, who lost their NFL talent and their head coach. The score does not indicate how close the game really was. Like usual, USC won in the end on their much superior athleticism. That being said, I think next week's showdown with Stanford will be eye-opening and crucial. In recent years, Stanford has been quite a frustrating opponent for SC--Stanford is 7-3 in the last 10 meetings between the two. Between this game and OU-OSU, I am so excited for saturday!
Mario_Speedwagon 11 Wasn't the game I expected from USC. Thought they'd create more separation early on.
pileatedloon 11 Struggling against a Fleck-less and Davis-less WMU at home didn't look good but I'm guessing The Darnold turns things around next week.
relax_on_the_mat 11 USC did not look as sharp as I'd expect against W Michigan at home, which is why I dropped them precipitously in my poll.

Nathanael-Greene 12 USC struggled against a Western Michigan team at home, a WMU without their best coach in recent history leading them, a WMU that isn't even projected to win or compete in the MAC Championship by most. As such, they fall out of the Top 10.

GilBrandt 20 Is WMU as good or close to as good as last season? Darnold and the Trojans better hope so because that was a close call in your own home stadium. USC and WMU look like exciting teams to watch, but it also appears that both could either rise together or crash together this season.
kermic_the_frog 20
hokies220 21 WMU was fantastic last year, and still has talent on the roster. But if you're supposed to be a top five team you shouldn't have a close game at home against them.
T-Thugs 25 Struggled with Western Michigan but still ended up winning 49-31.
