Best schedule so far, dominating most opponents, and absolutely solid performance on both sides of the ball. |

Human polls might be putting them lower due to close scoring games but my system views them as beating 3 solid teams and that is why they are ranked 2nd. |

PLRCOAT: 4.75. There's a pretty big drop between Clemson and USC, and that's probably because USC's wins are all just generally solid without being spectacular. The PLRCOAT definitely likes big wins, but it also quite likes having a handful of fine wins. USC has three, and none are bad; Texas and Western Michigan are both sitting at 1 for wins over 0-pointers, while Stanford is at 1.5 for beating Rice (who is at 1 for beating 0-pointer UTEP). |

My algorithm likes their win over 1-2 P5 Stanford, whose losses are to two undefeated teams. They also get decent points for beating Texas and WMU. |

-1: Had a hard time against an unranked Texas team that required 2 OT to beat.  Their defense also had a hard time stopping Texas towards the end of the game (all those conversions).  This in combination with Clemson's beat-down of Louisville had them flip spots. |

USC just barely falls behind Michigan to the number 5 spot. An early win over Stanford will probably look better at the end of the year than Michigan's win over Florida, but a narrow victory over a struggling Texas team just pulls them down. A conference winner in the P5 is going to get left out of the playoff, and right now its looking like the PAC-12 is going to get snubbed. |

USC was finally able to put an amped Texas team to bed. Should we begin to get concerned over Darnold's INTs? A win's a win, and we may never know how good Texas actually is this year. Meanwhile, USC drops out of the playoff for me this week until we see something more convincing out of them. |

Struggled against Texas. Darnold played out of his mind against Stanford and now has this type of performance, similar to that against WMU. Stanford's overranked, so their marquee win drops them, plus their performance this week drops them even more. |

Won their game, but struggled quite a bit and very nearly lost to a Texas team at home that lost to Maryland by double digits in Texas.Still undefeated, but between Darnold's struggles (7 touchdowns to 6 interceptions this year) and the team's struggles as a whole, they need to figure something out before they truly look like the playoff contender they were forecasted to be. |
