ttsci Ballot for 2017 Week 4

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Sept. 17, 2017, 1:59 p.m.

Overall Rationale: The omission of USF might bother some people, but I've watched all of their games this year from beginning to end and right now I don't think they're playing top-quality football. Winning does count, so if they continue they'll find their way back into my poll, but right now I'm not seeing the kind of performances I'd expect out of a top-25 team.Miami is also a bit of an unknown with only one game under their belt. The game against Toledo should provide some clarity next week. Until I see more of them, I'm not comfortable assigning them a ranking (which is why I don't preseason/early-week polls). Sorry Canes fans, but once I've seen more you will be placed where appropriate regardless of previous weeks' rankings - no "sticky" polls here.I am not sold on either Tennessee or Florida (Tennessee with the loss, Florida with the general offensive woes). Also considered (aka "also receiving votes"): Iowa, Utah, Oregon, Maryland, California.

Rank Team Reason
Alabama Crimson Tide
Clemson Tigers
Oklahoma Sooners
Penn State Nittany Lions
Oklahoma State Cowboys Strong offensive performances and a lot of "eye test" - Cowboys have just looked really good in every game of theirs I've watched.
USC Trojans
Wisconsin Badgers
Ohio State Buckeyes
Washington Huskies
Georgia Bulldogs
Virginia Tech Hokies
Michigan Wolverines Michigan has had some serious questions on offense so far this year. Their defense has been great, but at some point they need to start capitalizing in the red zone and getting touchdowns.
West Virginia Mountaineers Only loss was a highly competitive game against VT. I honestly feel that WVU is a good team and a loss against another good team shouldn't mean that they're relegated to the 20s or unranked.
Florida State Seminoles
TCU Horned Frogs
Duke Blue Devils Defense was impressive and Duke might be sneaky-good this year.
Louisville Cardinals
Auburn Tigers Offensive question marks scare me a bit about Auburn. Against Clemson is one thing, but that many turnovers against an overmatched foe is worrisome.
Mississippi State Bulldogs CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA CLANGA
Washington State Cougars
Colorado Buffaloes
Purdue Boilermakers
San Diego State Aztecs
Memphis Tigers
Vanderbilt Commodores
