Took a little while to get going, but Wisconsin was able to put a stop to all Utah State's shenanigans pretty early in route to a relatively easy victory. Much like Wisconsin teams of yore, expect this team to methodically destroy teams while no one really lights up the box score. |

It was very generous of them to give Utah State a 10 point head start but the Aggies would've needed six times that to overcome the 2nd/3rd/4th quarter Badger onslaught. It took a while to get going, but the Wisconsin offense looked good and the defense looked stout as usual. I jumped them over U Dub and USC for the week because of their ability to put away lesser competition. They probably won't stay here for long as I still think Washington and Southern Cal are marginally better teams. 59-point runs are fun, aren't they, Wisconsin? |

Wisconsin, like many other teams this week, faced more of a challenge than expected early in the game. Wisconsin quickly blew open a lead in the second half and never looked back. If the offense is improved from last year, I think Wisconsin will be a scary foe to face.  |

Utah State took an early lead against the Badgers on Friday night, but that was all Wisconsin let them have in their 30+ point victory. Wisconsin moves up a rank in my poll, up to #8. |

Similarly to Ohio State, USC, and Washington, Wisconsin was having trouble early with an opponent that they're clearly better than. That didn't last long as the Badgers went on a 59-0 streak to end the game. Wisconsin is clearly the favorite for the B1G - West. |

I have a feeling this could be a very Wisconsin team, even more than most Wisconsin teams are very Wisconsin teams. Their experience line up pretty well in that regard. They don't have a ton of talent - they're sitting a little ways outside of the top-25, overall - but they don't need a ton of talent, and in fact I think it's quite possible that talent is fundamentally detrimental to Wisconsin's success. No, seriously. Go through the 247 composite recruiting rankings, back through 1999 or whenever it was that the first rankings were posted on that website. Wisconsin posted one top-25 class in that ~20 year stretch. It was 2001. Wisconsin has missed a bowl once in the same period. It was 2001. Wisconsin has lost to Minnesota twice in that same period. One was 2001, and the other was 2003, when that top-25 class was maturing into the backbone of the team. In summary, Wisconsin panics when it has too much talent. Wisconsin has a very specific comfort zone, and it will not be leaving that comfort zone this year, and that probably means that it will win many games. |

Michigan leap-frogged Wisconsin in my rankings because of a more quality win, but Wisconsin looked scary after falling behind 10-0 to Utah State. The Badgers rallied for 59 unanswered points en route to a 59-10 victory. Like just about everyone else, the schedule will get tougher, but the Badgers look up to the challenge.   |

It seemed to be the story of the week, bad first half, good second half.  The Badgers got the job done, but like many schools will need to improve upon their consistency. |

The Badgers inexplicably trailed 10-0 to a subpar MWC team at one point, but the offense bursted out in the second half, led by star TE Troy Fumagalli. Joey Freshwater his Last Chance U buddies visit Madison next week |

Just doing Wisconsin things. Schedule is Charmin-soft especially with how bad BYU has been playing. I wouldn't be surprised if Wisconsin has one loss heading into the Big Ten championship game before getting blasted in Indianapolis and again in their bowl game. Probably won't know how good this squad is until their games against Iowa and Michigan in mid-November. |

The two halves of Wisconsin's opener mirrored the two most common storylines for this weekend's games. In the first half they struggled mightily against an inferior opponent, while in the second they steamrolled a cupcake. Like many other teams, they did very little to change my opinion on them one way or the other. The Badgers bring elite D and an elite run game to the table. My big question mark remains whether QB Alex Hornibrook can play at a level to match the rest of the squad. TBD... |

Wisconsin didn't come out
strong. Utah State put up 10 points in the 1st quarter and the Badgers tied
them before halftime. Then came back out and made the necessary changes to make
the game appear it was never close. |
