BigBoutros 1 Reigning champs return the bulk of a lethal offense, including QB, RB, and top WRs. Schedule is highly favorable. I strongly recommend watching Trevor Lawrence's 2018 playoff cuts: | https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8rg2DVup9c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbx0ybAKKJg | By the end of the season, Lawrence had become an absolute freak show cheat code video game alien pork chop on a stick. If you are old enough to remember recruiting paysites in their early-aughts infancy, you may recall the high school scouting of Jimmy Clausen. He was considered a truly generational QB prospect; multiple Heismans, national championships, and a first-overall draft selection were on the table. It didn't turn out that way for Clausen, Notre Dame, or the prognosticators, and perhaps as a result they've been a little more hesitant to heap such expectations on incoming quarterbacks since. I bring this up because we've already had a full season of Lawrence at the college level and speaking of him in hushed, reverential tones like he is a Great Old One is at this point justified. It is stupid to think what his numbers will look like as a true junior with not only the Clemson playbook fully downloaded in his head but a cavalcade of five-stars to play with.

crimsonlaw 1 As defending champs, they get all benefits of the doubt, especially after the way they dominated Alabama in the championship. They should dominate the ACC and likely won't face a real challenge until they reach the playoffs. This team if full of some bad dudes.
dabul-master 1
DarkLegend64 1 I won't be at all surprised if they repeat. Clemson is scary good. Texas A&M and Syracuse are their only threats unless FSU just suddenly turns it around.
darkra01 1 They're the defending national champions so it makes sense.

goblue10 1 as much as Dabo's sanctimonious bullshit gets old, they still have probably the best collection of talent in the weakest major conference. I think there's a 50% chance they win every game by 2 scores

Harmbert_ 1 I thought 2018 Alabama was one of the best teams of all time until they played Clemson. Maintain the top spotDabo is a trash human being though

hokies220 1 Last year shouldn't matter, and teams don't really beat Saban twice in a row(except Ole Miss those two times), but the natty was an obliteration last year.

Spiral-Pilot 1 I think we all know everyone's #1 and #2. Bama and Clemson were the top two teams last year. Clemson returns virtually every key piece of their offense from last year, Higgins, Ross, Etienne, Lawrence, etc. and there's no reason that Brent Venables won't reload on the other side of the ball, despite losing their all-world defensive line. Giving Clemson the edge based primarily on last years championship game.
steelcitygator 1 Defending champs, so much back (including the best QB in the country), loaded recruiting classes, no real challengers in the conference, need I go on?

Ticklebump 1 As in previous polls, #1 is #1 to me until they are beaten. Lawrence returning as the signal caller just solidifies them as the odds on favorite. I think we will know by the end of week 3 what kind of Tiger team this is with tests against TAMU and Syracuse (who I am bullish on) and then a relative cruise through the end of their schedule. The only other potential threats I can see are Florida State who is an unknown quantity and a pesky UoSC team trying for rival upsets.
tjstanley 1 No reason to believe anyone could beat the national champs yet
tks231 1
tmothy07 1 Undisputed until they aren't. ACC is very much "down", and Texas A&M is visits them this year. I think they cruise, provided the injury bug doesn't find them.

iliketoupvotepuns 2 Clemson comes in at number 2 on my list, as they return a loaded offense guided by what was the most talented true freshman quarterback in recent memory last year. Although I consider Alabama slightly more talented, Clemson has a more favorable schedule with many typical ACC powers seemingly in program downswings. They should be an essential lock for the playoffs. Replacing all of the talent they lost on the defensive front is probably not possible, but Clemson has recruited to the point where they will still have an elite defense to go with their elite offense lead by Trevor Lawrence.

ya111101 2 Record: 13-0. Clemson cruises through the regular season, but a lack of opportunities to pick up quality wins puts them behind another undefeated team in Alabama.Bowl Projection: Fiesta Bowl
dan4223 3
frumious88 3 If you think Clemson should be higher, that gives all the more credit to how Clemson has recruited/developed/coached these last few years. In total composite ranking average over this time period, Clemson would come in 9th overall. Having elite talent at QB is perhaps the easiest way to see a team punch above their average recruiting ranking and Clemson has done an excellent job at that.
