tmothy07 Ballot for 2019 Preseason

Ballot Type: Human

Submitted: Aug. 21, 2019, 8:39 a.m.

Overall Rationale: Preseason poll. Lots of "feel" picks and looking a bit at last year. We'll see when the season starts how teams work themselves out.

Rank Team Reason
Clemson Tigers Undisputed until they aren't. ACC is very much "down", and Texas A&M is visits them this year. I think they cruise, provided the injury bug doesn't find them.
Georgia Bulldogs Kirby Smart's squad has been on the wrong end of the Alabama scoreline a few times now. I think they get over the hurdle this year and are the lone SEC CFP team in 2019.
Alabama Crimson Tide I'm ranking Alabama at 3 now because I can't come up with a reason other than my own hunches, but I think they fall from this ranking this year. My hot take: This is the year Alabama doesn't make the playoff.
Oklahoma Sooners Lincoln Riley is enjoying some great success in Norman. The addition of Jalen Hurts at QB following two Heisman winners is a good one, but the question mark could be the O-Line
Ohio State Buckeyes A new head coach, a new QB, a new defensive staff. The ceiling is high, but lots of unknowns, could fall or rise. We'll find out a lot in the first game against the Lane Train. A few are looking forward to the game 5 Nebraska match-up as Ohio State's first real test, but I think Luke Fickell's Cincinnati will be. Fickell will have UC charged up and ready to try to hand the Buckeyes their first lost to an Ohio opponent since 1921.
LSU Tigers Jeaux Burreaux leads the Tigers again this year, and I think they have a chance at the SEC West. They get unlucky with the schedule @Alabama, but if they can pull the upset in Tuscaloosa, the world is their oyster.
Michigan Wolverines I've heard "if not this year, then when?" for a few years now. Basically, their ceiling is 11-1 until it isn't.
Notre Dame Fighting Irish
Florida Gators
Penn State Nittany Lions Overshadowed by Ohio State and Michigan in the Big Ten East. Losing so many key players may affect them, but some odd calls not-withstanding, James Franklin is a great coach and should have the Nittany Lions in good shape this year.
Texas Longhorns I'm holding my breath for their match-up with LSU in Austin. I think they'll lose a heart breaker.
Utah Utes Hurt by injuries last year. D-line (and good D overall), experienced QB, experienced RB, and experienced staff. Weak schedule. If they can stay healthy, they could end up with a Pac-12 title...
Texas A&M Aggies Gotta go to Clemson, and I don't think they keep it as close as last year. Unfortunately this season, I think LSU and Alabama are hurdles that Jimbo can't clear.
Oregon Ducks
Auburn Tigers
Wisconsin Badgers
Washington Huskies
Iowa State Cyclones I love Matt Campbell and what he's doing in Ames. I think they beat Iowa this year, improving on last year.
Iowa Hawkeyes
Stanford Cardinal
Michigan State Spartans
Washington State Cougars
Syracuse Orange
Nebraska Cornhuskers Everyone's very high on Frost and the Huskers this year. I think their floor this year is bowl eligibility, but I can't rank a team that had 4 wins higher than this right now.
Cincinnati Bearcats
