2016 Preseason Clemson Tigers Rankings

AGSattack 1 Reason: Deshaun Watson.  I flipped back and forth between Clemson and Alabama, but I think that kind of leadership and play from the quarterback position can't be ignored.  The dude scared Saban so much he called one of the ballsiest onside kick calls I've ever seen.  Alabama's defense has the potential to be special so I'm looking forward to seeing how these two teams play.

chceman 1 Obviously this team was championship caliber heading into the championship last year and despite the result, could have been the best team. Plus, they return the most important player in college football, so I give them the slightest edge over the evil empire.

cmdrcaboose2 1 Best QB in the Nation, stacked squad.  Lost some key starters but the recruiting has been good enough that they shouldn't suffer much.  Pulling a bad year for Auburn/South Carolina means they may have a two game schedule with Louisville/FSU.  Watson should shine.
corundum9 1 Heisman caliber QB with ample playoff experience, favorable schedule, and a great coach. Alabama might as well be 1B, but I'm giving Clemson the edge since they don't have to replace both  starting QB and Heisman winning RB.

eclectic_tastes 1 Deshaun Watson is amazing and they return almost everyone on offense.  On defense, they will reload, there is talent and stars will emerge.  Coming into the season with a QB expected to be the best in the nation and a proven coach is enough to justify Clemson at #1.

kamikazeguy 1 QB play and a dominant defensive line are keys to a National Championship, and Clemson is the only team that has proven commodities at both this year.  Wayne Gallman may be posed for a breakout year as well, as Clemson should look to overpower teams in the second half after Deshaun Watson tires them out with his speed.

mickeyquicknumbers 2 When you know a team is the runaway obvious choice to have the best offense in the nation, you tend not want to drop them very far. Very real concerns rest in the secondary and the DE and make them look not quite as much an impending juggernaut as just a clear 2nd best team in the nation for now.
mjurkiewicz 2
monkeymatt1836 2 Coming off a 14-1 season including an Orange Bowl win over Oklahoma Clemson should be poised to make another run at the CFB title. Despite losing a historic 9 players to the NFL draft, including 7 defenders, Clemson returns Heisman runner-up QB DeShaun Watson. Clemson should be favored in most of their match ups, but look for every team to take their best shot at the reigning ACC champs. Clemson's marquee match up of the season comes against Florida State in their house on October 29. Should Clemson come out on top, look for them to repeat as ACC champs, and potentially be playing in the CFP despite losing a portion of their defense.
MrTheSpork 2 Last year's runner-up rolled through the ACC and, outside of Florida State and possibly a surging Louisville, looks poised to do the same thing again. Deshaun Watson is an absolute monster of a QB and the offensive backfield loses just a few pieces from last year, meaning that side of the ball may actually improve, provided the OL stays healthy. The defense may regress slightly, especially against heavy passing attacks, but, like the team in the top slot, it's hard to bet against the Tigers.

ssnider23 2 Clemson returned about 90% of their offense, which proved to be an excellent system led by Watson. I think they will stay in the Top 5 for most, if not the whole season. It all comes down to the FSU game for me.

Stockz 2
sunburn_on_the_brain 2 They didn't lose much and they still have the playmakers.  If they get past FSU, sky's the limit.
swanky-k 2
swodaem2005 2 The Clemson Tigers return the most meaningful production of any team in the FBS. Namely, there is little doubt that Deshaun Watson is the most talented and productive returning player in the country not named Christian McCaffrey. Surrounding Watson is a criminally underrated core of offensive talent (Scott, Williams, Leggett, Renfrow, Gallman, Dye, Cain, etc.) that should ensure Clemson is among the most explosive offensive programs in the country again in 2016. On paper Clemson should cede some ground defensively given their need to develop defensive line and secondary production and depth on the fly this season. However, betting against the rebuild effort of the defensive staff at Clemson lead by Brent Venables was a mistake too many made last season. It should shock no one if Clemson is back in the CFP in 2017.
T-Thugs 2 National Championship runners up, bring back lots of talent. Love the opener with Auburn.

BabyBladder 3 13-2, losses to FSU and OSU in the playoffs. Watson will win Heisman.
BoboIsDead 3 Dabo Swinney was probably right when he said that it won't be another 34 years before we see Clemson battling for a national title.  Primed with one of the best quarterbacks in the nation, talent all over the offense for him to play with, and a defense which was lights-out in 2015, Clemson under Swinney looks to be a consistent contender.
