chrisb19 4 I was really impressed with Lincoln Riley in year one. Having Bob Stoops calling the defense didn't hurt, either. The Big XII is still on a bit of a downswing (unless you buy the West Virginia hype), so Oklahoma's schedule will be manageable again. Of course, Baker Mayfield is a huge difference maker and they're going to lose a lot of production with him gone. But I think there's enough continuity that they remain the Big XII's best shot at returning to the playoff.

xelphin 4 Taking UGA to double overtime in an incredibly entertaining playoff game made this decision fairly easy. They don't have Baker Mayfield anymore, but Lincoln Riley stepped up and showed he could coach a supremely talented team even as a relative rookie.

HUSKEROYAL 5 Oklahoma was right on the doorstep of the CFP title game before that heartbreaking Rose Bowl loss to Georgia. They lost Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield, but their offense will continue to thrive under Kyler Murray, a solid replacement. They will most likely win the Big 12 again, but the key factor in whether or not OU will take the next step in the national picture will be their defense.
icklebush 5
jmac_21 5 The offensive line and skill positions should be enough to overcome average QB play. Who knows, maybe Kyler Murray really is that good.

woakley 5 Good Argument could be made for slotting them over Wisconsin, but I want to see what Kyler Murray has for Oklahama before buying into too much hype. Would be hard to see them regress too much under Lincoln Riley, but for now I think Wisconsin is deserving of the 4 spot over them

boxman151515 7 Yeah, they don't have Baker Mayfield anymore. But I don't expect OU to take much of a step back. Riley proved he's a hell of a head coach last year, and I'm not concerned about their talent level or anything like that. They'll be impressive yet again.

Extra_Excrement 7 Everyone is so focused on Baker Mayfield leaving that they forgot about guys like Rodney Anderson returning. If you didn't watch the Rose Bowl last season (how dare you) then you missed Anderson consistently thrashing Georgia's defense. The jury is still out on Murray and since it's an even year the BIG12 could miss the playoffs entirely (fantastic analysis on my part, I know) but the Sooner offense should be electric as usual. Stoops doesn't exactly instill confidence in a lot of the OU faithful but the defense has to get better or at least stay the same, right?

Hey_Its_Roomie 7 Don't get too excited Sooner fans. For what it's worth, I think from here to probably 14th I'd rank as a tie if I could.
itsabearcannon 7 Perennial B12 contenders at this point but still unsure if they're going to be okay with the QB situation without Mayfield
JeromesNiece 7 We'll see how Lincoln Riley handles the loss of Baker Mayfield but I see no reason to believe the Sooners won't be the class of the Big 12 once again in 2018.

Miami_da_U 7 Sorry OU fans, I just don't believe they'll be as good without Baker Mayfield running things on offense. I don't think there will be a massive dropoff or anything, especially with Rodney Anderson and the talent at WR, but they're gunna have to prove themselves before I rank them above teams 3-6. I think the offense will be great, just maybe not ELITE.Add that to the fact their Defense lost some big players and they already struggled mightily at times last season, and I'm not as optimistic as most seem to be about the Sooners. I think they really NEED the incoming freshman to step up this season, and I'm sure some will, but they'll also make freshman mistakes. Without Baker Mayfield they need the defense to be More consistent than last year. If they step up, they'll win the B12. If not, well....they'll still probably win the B12, but wont be CFP bound at least.

PHubbs 7 Last year was Oklahoma's shot at a title due to their unstoppable offense. Sadly, their can't-make-a-stoppable defense cost them their shot by giving us one of the wildest shootout games in CFB history against Georgia. Now they face the daunting task of replacing almost twice as much production as any other team in the top ten. They open this season with three teams showing tons of potential to possibly try and put the Sooners on upset alert. If Oklahoma makes it to 3-0 they have a good shot at an undefeated Big XII title, but I predict they'll lose a game or two along the way and find themselves on the outside looking in at the playoffs.

Blooblod 8 I'm being told by my sources that former Oklahoma QB, Maker Bayfield, did in fact really do this shit. But even without Bayfield, the Sooners will trot out one of the best offenses in the country. Kyler "Literally Willie Mays" Murray has gotten a lot of attention this offseason for being drafted to play an irrelevant sport. He's projected to be the starting QB for the Sooners, but I wouldn't forget about Austin Kendall either. Expecting either one of them to be Bayfield is wildly unfair, but regardless of who the QB is in Norman, Lincoln Riley will have this offense humming. The defense is where the questions lie. As an outsider, I'll admit that everyone on OU's defense kind of blends together into one amorphous being--even former recruiting gem Caleb Kelly. Unfortunately, Caleb Kelly no longer exists as his molecular structure has been fully absorbed by the amorphous being at this point. Look for true freshman Brendan Radley-Hiles to make an impact in the secondary and hopefully not be absorbed by the amorphous being. My Sooners record prediction: 11-1. I have the Sooners cruising to an 11-0 start, only to fall to West Virginia in Morgantown in a shootout for the ages. Some guys just want to watch couches burn.

GenialGiant 8 2017 Oklahoma performed very well, but I'm hesitant to rank the 2018 team higher until I see how they perform without Baker Mayfield.

mjacksongt 9 Losing Mayfield hurts - he was one of the best in CFB history after all - but the running game should return in a big way, and Lincoln Riley gets a full offseason as the Head Honcho.

mickeyquicknumbers 17 A defense that was noticeably bad retains its defensive coordinator and losses a considerable amount of experience. A pair of high quality backs, and a very good receiving group should assuage the loss of Baker Mayfield a bit - but the dropoff from Baker Mayfield to a "pretty good" QB is tremendous, and even if the offense remains at a borderline-top-10 level, not being able to swallow teams whole on the offensive side is going to cost Oklahoma a couple of games in 2018. I'm sure people will not only not like how low this ranking is, but the fact that they're still the highest rated team in the Big 12, but I'm just not seeing what teams from this conference have the roster to put together a great run this year.
