This is the easiest spot to fill every single year. Saban, let another team enjoy this spot for once.  |

It's Bama. They return their stacked backfield and Calvin Ridley on the outside, and they'll always have a top 5 defense due to the ridiculous amount of talent there. Scarbrough, Ridley, Fitzpatrick, Hand, and Evans are all All-American calibre players. If you don't have them #1, you're a h8r. |

Another re-load season. Players we haven't even heard of yet will be first-rounders in the draft. No reason to assume they aren't the best team in America again. |

I mean, there's not a lot to say here. Bama is really really really good. Like every year. I expect them to be great this season. |

Straight #1 recruiting classes + Nick Saban = who cares how many players they
lose, assistant coaches they lose, or whether or not they're actually going
to have a QB controversy next year. They were the presumptive #1 last, and
the year before, and they will be this year as well. |

Does anything really need to be said? Alabama will almost always be the preseason No. 1 as long as Nick Saban is the coach, and this year is no different. A pissed off Alabama coming off a devastating national championship game loss may just lay waste to the rest of the country. |

They bring back their QB, and no reason to think they aren't the team to beat, since Clemson lost Watson. |

I would like to have anyone other than Bama as #1, but they are such a proven program that I can't do it and I hate myself a little bit for that. |

Most proven coach in college football. #1 in 5-year recruiting rankings. Returning a QB and has talented back-up. Curious about how the new coaching hires will pan out. If there are struggles early in the season Alabama will slide a little, but I'd expect them to fix any problems by season's end. |

Hurts dazzled as a freshman.  His worst regular season game - against LSU - still saw him rush for 114 yards.  He put up a decent effort against a stifling Clemson defense, and I don't think he's going to regress heading into his sophomore year.  Despite losing 7 defensive players to the draft, Alabama continues to rely on a rotating, deep roster or players who can fit the system rather than on individual players and their talent.   |

I have only one concern with Alabama's championship-caliber roster: Jalen Hurt's ability to put up big passing numbers against elite defenses. If Hurts shows development in this area of his game, the Crimson Tide may be the best team in football this season. |

Why is Alabama ranked #4? Well, they're not as experienced as the teams above them on this list. You say that they have so much talent they don't need to worry about experience? Well nobody asked you, this is my preseason poll and I will hold on to my dream that Kiffin stole Saban's mojo and Alabama will finally lose more than one game in the regular season. At least until they inevitably destroy FSU in Week 1. |
