I actually don't think Texas is the fourth best team in the country, but I think their win over Notre Dame is more impressive than what other teams have done so far. |

Texas was fast, physical, and playing with a lot of heart - they are going to be really tough to beat if they keep playing like that. Shane Buechele was about as impressive as you can be for a freshman QB in his first game, against Notre Dame. We'll see if they can stay up here. |

So the thing about UT is that they could win 5 games as easily as they could win 10. They did finally figure out how to use a two QB system and the offense looks fantastic. They didn't quit when they lost the lead and when ND tied it with that unbelievable kick2. Credit for a big win and seeming like the Longhorns are back. Time will tell if they really are. |

Looked very good against an apparently pretty good team in ND. Holding off a comeback from a talented team goes a long way. Not sold that they're completely "back," though. |

Had always expected Texas to be a solid team this year. That freshmen QB Buchele looked great and so did Swoopes now that he doesn't have to throw the ball. Taking down a top 10 team in impressive fashion has me bump them all the way up into the top 10. I know some are going to disagree because they were unranked. But this was arguably one of the top 3 most impressive wins last week. This team looks like they have all the pieces right now. Time will tell if I'm giving them too much credit.  |

Quality win over Notre Dame - the defense appeared shaky against an elite offense from Notre Dame but the talent is there defensively and now the scheme is there on offense.  I'm not sure Texas is back, but they're back in my rankings as of now because they have one of the best wins in football. |

Texas has finally found an offense that works against a team not named Cal. True freshman Shane Buechele led a Briles-style offense to near-perfection, going 16/26 (61.5% completion rate) for 280 yards. A deep ball to Burt and a well-placed pass to Armanti Foreman ensures the standard tactic for beating Texas last year (stack the box and dare Texas to pass) will not be an option this year. The OL at Texas was decent against a beefy ND DL, giving D'Onta Foreman 5.5 yards per carry, and will get better over the course of the season as young players, true freshman center Shackleford and sophomores Vahe and Williams get more experience. The WR corps at Texas shined, with former QB Heard taking a 68 yard catch off the helmet, target #1 Burt pulling in a 72 yard catch for a TD, and Foreman, Oliver, and Warrick all showing they have the tools for the job. The Texas RB corps is big and strong and will continue to impose their will against teams with weaker DLs. DeShon Kizer will likely be the best QB Texas plays, so the defensive weakness in the secondary aren't incredibly worrying, but still do give some cause for concern. The OL at ND abused the Texas DL whenever Texas went into a 4-3 set, but seemed to be a little less powerful when Texas dropped into the 3-3-5. Strong's 3-3-5 will likely give Texas enough defensive success to allow Texas to eke out victories until the young DL recruits can be inserted in.  |

Sure why not? Texas might actually have a quarterback they can trust at last. All the sudden teams like Cal, ISU, and Kansas State don't feel like daunting trials.  |

Hook Em Horns, welcome back Longhorn nation. DKR was a madhouse under the lights. The Longhorns looked night and day better than last year, and edged out what should be a good Notre Dame team in 2OT. Texas's new Baylor style offense worked very well against ND's mediocre defense. They had a nice little 1-2 punch with Fr. Qb Shane Buechele and Sr. Bulldozer Tyrone Swoopes. Texas looks dangerous once again, and Charlie Strong finally has his time believing they can win games. Look for Texas to make some noise in the Big 12 this year. The defense might not be able to get them to win a Big 12 Title though. |

OKAY I PROMISE I CAN EXPLAIN. The Texas hype is going to be huge after this weekend, but I think this is a pretty fair place to but them until we get more data points. If Texas continues to chug along, I'll give them some bump-ups to make up for a relatively cautious Week 2 ranking. For now though, I think this is fair. |

Texas is back, y'all. Or so their game this weekend would have us think. Outside of one or two drives where the defense looked out of position, Texas did very well. Beyond just winning their game, they looked really, really good at what they were doing on both sides of the ball. Second best punter in the FBS |

Hello Texas! Welcome to the top 25! It's been awhile, but in a game that 30 years ago would have been a tie they proved themselves against what's been a known entity for a few years. Whether this level will continue is kinda up in the air, but for now a slot just inside the top 20 seems reasonable. |

Great win for Texas, but they need to prove they don't just play to the level of their opponent. I'm prepared to move them up significantly if they dispel that notion in the next few weeks, specifically after playing @Cal. |
